Uhoh.

So...after a week of being without most of my medications because my mail-order prescription company was backed up - I clocked about 8 hours of being on the phone with them - I got a lovely call to end the week letting me know that they will no longer be covering my antibiotics, as they are not medically necessary for my condition according to IDSA guidelines.

SOMEHOW, I'm not even upset. I've been feeling like it's about time for a big change anyway - so it looks like I'll be spending quite a lot of time searching this forum for other alternatives to treatment. Just thought I'd share what's going on with me - this is certainly going to be an interesting new chapter....

OH wow Border!! I'm so sorry to hear this!! I always hated dealing with the prescription mail order services too!

Thanks for the tips - my insurance coverage always confuses me...I know last time I tried to buy antibiotics at the pharmacy it was way more than I could afford...but that may just be because it was brand name - I'll have to look into it.

This is the best possible time for all of this to happen as I could sort of tell my body was begging for some sort of change - hopefully it turns out for the better.

I just got off the phone with my doctor and it turns out she was in court with my prescription company over this (and they still said no) - on the bright side this really renews my confidence in my doctor (which I have to admit was starting to waver) that she has my back in all of this.

Sometimes I feel like my life is a lifetime movie - I'm sure you can all relate!

The more I read and learn about this stuff the more I can't believe. People are treated for all kinds of things without problems.... Fibromyalgia in which from what I was told there is no test for but ruling other problems out, not to mention all the psychiatric meds prescribed to people who do not really need them.

I hope you can find a way to get the abx. My heart goes out to all of the people I am reading about that have had this stuff for years before being diagnosed. Then the insurance companies want to put a limit on something that is validated from tests? Crazy!!

What really gets me is that Dermatologists routinely use high dose, long term abx for their patients with serious acne issues, but we can't get the same drugs at the same dose for the same amount of time!!! Those Dermatologists sure aren't being hauled into court and being threatened with having their license revoked and being fined!
