Well Lyme is tough. It's not easy. At first when I got the diagnosis I was so happy. I thought to myself "Great, it's not something that's usually fatal. I can just take antibiotics a little longer and get better from this." A year later I am still struggling having done aggressive treatments.
I say that not to scare you or make you worry more. I just didn't realize how complicated and stubborn that Lyme was until I started having serious problems.
However, your life is not over. Sure things are going to get difficult. You may have increasing symptoms, strong herxes, times where you just cannot get out of bed for work or school etc., but living a good life is still possible despite the disease.
I can understand the frustration of college while dealing with Lyme. It may be possible for you to explain your situation to your adviser and get certain accommodations or be excused due to medical issues if you have the support of your doctor. I was in college with Lyme. I ended up finishing through distance learning, but it was still tough since I had to be able to think, study and write coherently and I often couldn't type due to neuropathy of my hands.
A month is actually a really short wait for a LLMD so at least your lucky about
that :). Before you know it your appointment will be upon you.
In the meantime, I would work on researching Lyme and co-infections along with things you can do for yourself like supplements and diet changes. It may make you feel better to know that there are tons of combos and treatment options. That's what I focus all my energy on. That way if one combo is failing me, I have something else in mind to try. Then I don't feel like I'm on my last option and discouraged.
I also get the hot and cold stuff back and forth. That was one of my original symptoms.
