In a prior post Opugirl said the following: My test came back negative but I am positive that I have Bart as well. I did show with bio-energy testing as having it. Also my herx reactions to Houttuyunia and Bactrim also indicate a Bart infection.

Can you tell me more about Houttuyunia? I see it's herbal but hadn't heard of it. Can you use that alone to check for bart related herx or only with the Bactrim? My daughter's test for bart came back negative but I don't want to neglect treating it before the bab if she actually has it. Sounds like its typical to have it when there' lyme and bab.

Hi Mom,

I just know that it was a herx rxn because it was like clockwork on using the Houttuyunia - 3 days in and it felt like the worst menstrual cramps you can imagine and I had that same exact feeling on Bactrim, also days after I started using it. Bactrim inhibits Babesia, slightly effective against Bart and so far as I can tell Houttuyunia is specific to Bartonella. According to Buhner it works not by killing the bacteria but by inhibiting the immune suppression mechanism that bartonella uses on your body therefore enabling your body to kill the bart. I haven't found the article stating that though.

It isn't necessary to have a herx but for me it was informative and then I knew what I needed to back off on/adjust and what I need to bring up the next time I talk with the lyme doc. There are many others that agree with me that Houttuyunia is a very strong herb and should be used with caution! Sida acuta is also recommended for both bart and babs but I am unsure of how it works except it is specific for protecting red blood cells.
