Extreme neck pain after taking abx

Hi All:

I have been on antibiotics for an infection in my foot for a week. I suddenly developed severe neck pain. I am really scared. Also the last two days I feel more lethargic. I just don't feel right. Nothing extreme like fever or vomiting. Just stiff neck, neck pain and under the weather feeling. I put in a call to the ID dr that has been treating my foot. I am waiting to hear back from her in the morning hopefully. She is not my LLMD, by the way. Anybody have any opinions? I am wondering if it is lyme related or not.

I can only say that after I got bit by a tick about 4 weeks ago,I decided to take Doxy, just in case.

I was terrified that I was going to get reinfected.....within 24 hours,my neck was killing me,so I stopped after 3 days,unfortunately my doctor was on holiday so I couldn't ask for advice.

The neck pain disappeared 24 hours later,why ? I have absolutely no idea,but it hasn't come back.

I had a very bad time with Doxy the first time,I guess it just doesn't agree with me. sad

i hope that is the reason. I am on two different abx. One of them is minocycline which is in the doxy family. I took doxy for a few months for the lyme and had no problem though.
P.S. I have insomnia now also. If you live on my time zone then I guess you have it also. Fun Fun.

No,I don't live in your time zone wink

It's 11.30,Central European time at the moment,luckily my insomnia is a thing of the past,the last few weeks here have been incredibly hot 36ish(centigrade) so I couldn't sleep because of the heat.

Try not to get too worried about your neck(easy to say) I think that if you cramp up,it just makes things much worse.

PS,I upped my detoxing after I came off the Doxy.

Im sorry about your neck maybe it is an accumulation of toxins in your central nervous system from die off reaction? Doesn't die off cause ammonia to accumulate and I think I read that somewhere that it can be a neurotoxin or something and can cause neurological distress symptoms. I don't know but maybe you can detox the possible toxins out of your body and that would relieve your neck pain maybe. definitely ask your doctor because I only know what has been happening in my family, with my dad being sick for 15 years and my mom being sick as well. It has been a living hell somedays.

Hi,

A stiff and painful neck was one of my first symptoms of lyme. It was really bad, it got my attention! As I started antibiotics it went away. Recently I changed antibiotics and it came roaring back. I had forgotten how bad it was, it was usually coupled with bad headaches. It has gone away again.

Thanks everybody. My neck still hurts but at the moment it is more livable. I am also starting to feel like i felt when i first started this whole mess. My legs are achy, I feel like I am getting a slight upper respiratory problem. Possibly a low grade fever type of feeling. My thermometer broke so I don't know. I am going to go out a buy a new one today. Just that feeling of getting sick. I think taking the antibiotics for my foot infection has created this set-back. I am at my wits end with this whole thing. I know that there are a lot worse off people. I can still walk, drive, go to work, have a social life etc., but the quality of life is not what it was. I am also engaged and I feel bad for my fiancee because he has no health problems and I am sure this is not what he bargained for. This will be a second marriage for both of us and my health is putting a little bit of a damper on the relationship.Maybe that is why we have not set a date yet. Maybe he is having his doubts. I sometimes feel that maybe he should move on to a younger and healthier person. He is 3 yrs younger then me. I am 55 and he will be 52 in November. I am sure you ladies out there know that most guys want younger women. We just happen to meet and click. When i met him I was not sick and I looked young for my age. Now i look older. He is patient with me but still...nobody can relate to this unless you are in it. I am sure everybody will agree. Thanks for listening.

This is a hiccup,you will start to improve again,but try not to panic,stress,as we all know,will only make matters worse.

You have a great future to look forward to,try and concentrate on that.

Tickled. No I am not alone. Thank you. I live with my Fiancee and my Son is home from college. He lives with me now for a while until he starts working and gets his own apartment. My fever went down thank goodness. I think that the antibiotics for the foot infection I got from all the cortisone shots the idiot podiatrist gave me for my neuroma, caused my immune system to be weaker and i am now sick. I feel like the neck pain, fever and lethargy was the onset of getting an upper respiratory infection and cold. I remember when i had just started doxy for lyme last winter, I had gotten a bad cold. I had not had a cold in a few years at that point. I have been plenty sick with lyme stuff but not an actual "explained' illness.
