Call from Dr. about Igenex results

The nurse called me a couple of days ago and said it looks like my Igenex results are positive for Lyme. She specifically mentioned positive IgM band 31... but, the Dr. needed to send something in for confirmation...? Which will cost me another $100 but it will confirm the positive result.
Anyone know what that means? And what they do to "confirm"?

She also said the positive result came from my urine not my blood. Anyone else have this experience...? Does that mean anything in particular...?

Yes Beth the urine test does detect antigens from Borrelia but it's not used too much since only about 29% of Lyme patients confirmed by EM rash showed positive with the test. Guess you were one of the lucky ones Delmar.

The confirmation test is used when you have an IGeneX positive based on bands 31 and 41 being positive. Band 31 can cross-react with some viruses and other spirochetes so a specific test is performed to rule that out.

I see. So I must have had band 31 positive on the blood test, as well as a positive urine test.

So the positive urine test means I definitely have Lyme...? Sorry, all this is so confusing.

I guess I'll know more when I see the doc and go over the results.
