Adding 2nd antibiotic - advice, please?

I'm currently on doxy (three weeks now), taking 200 mg twice daily.
When I add the zithromax can I take it at the same time as doxy, or do they need to be separated?

This is where I broke down the first time. I actually felt the best on this combo but let's just say I got a c-diff scare.

If you can handle taking lots of stuff. You may want yo add in a medicinal clay or binder. It will help prevent diaherrea. Take lots of probiotics.

Louise - you were on doxy and zithro together? For how long before you had trouble? (and what dosages?)

Did you take them together?

I'm wondering what's harder on the gut - taking them together or taking them spaced out during the day? So, either hit it hard all at once, or continually hit it with less at a time.

When would I take the medicinal clay?

What did your dr advice you to do?

I never took Doxy in combination with another antiobiotic... I can not really share my experiences on that combination. I took another Tetracycline together with Zithromax. I herxed a lot (I always herx a lot on Zithromax).

Just be careful when combining abx, it is best to follow your dr's instructions. Or your pharmacist's instructions on when to exactly take the abx.

Louise, how many hours do you leave between the abx and clay intake?

Hi Girlie,

Definitely ask your doctor. I remember both of those being hard on my stomach. I didn't take Zithromax for Lyme; I think I took it for strep, pre-Lyme. But I remember it bothering my stomach. Doxy was hard on my stomach, too.

My GP (reg doc) only prescribed the doxy. I went to a ND (not Lyme Literate, just learning) and asked for the zithro. She doesn't ever prescribe two abx at same time to treat lyme, but she only has a basic knowledge base of lyme. I did tell her I was taking doxy and would be adding the zithro to it. She still prescribed it.
I don't have anyone LL to bounce this off of yet. I wanted to get going on my treatment right away, so am researching/reading lyme treatment guidelines, as well as gathering info from this forum so I don't have to wait until my LLND in August. When I see him, I will only be on the combo for a few weeks. At that point, he will assess and perhaps change it up.

I asked the pharmacist when I had it filled if they could be taken together and she said they could.
But, I still would like to know what other people have done when taking two abx - if together, or spaced out. What is easier on the tummy/intestines?

I will be seeing a LLND in August - and at that time will only be on the combo together for a few weeks. He may end up changing my regimen.
