Yikes - a "Lyme-like" Borrelia infection

I stumbled upon this today:

It seems that those who were clinically diagnosed with Lyme could instead have a mixed Borrelia infection, another type of Borrelia infection and/or an unnamed spirochetal infection that is even harder to treat (sigh).

The above link relates to the work of the ground-breaking pathologist who developed the DNA sequencing test for Lyme.

VERY interesting…

This is encouraging:
“The gateway to new DNA sequencing tests is proper polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and we have designed a pair of genus-specific PCR primers to detect all pathogenic spirochetes, including Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia miyamotoi and other related borreliae in this group and to prepare the templates for direct DNA sequencing”

A DNA sequencing test is available through that pathologist's facility:

There do seem to be some limitations since the testing can detect Bb's only in blood, joint fluid or spinal fluid.

Still, I think it would be a great test for people to get done immediately after a tick bite....
