Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Flossie - if you're wanting to get bart, Ceftin won't do it alone. Ceftin is more for lyme.
Rifampin is good for bart...that's why I'm probably going to add it.
Bactrim is also good for bart - usually paired with Zithromax.

So, I'm leaving Rifampin out of the picture for now, as I just got my Tinidazole yesterday and will start taking it today. smhair

I'm concerned about Tini, but I'm only taking it 2 days a week to bust the cysts. I am continuing with the Ceftin. I have discontinued Biaxin and left the Dr. a message yesterday - re: should I double my Ceftin since I'm off the biaxin. (I'm on 500 mg twice daily of Ceftin, and I've seen it prescribed at 1000 mg x2)

So, I will do the bart herbals for now....

I don't think we can get Omnicef in Canada (correct me if I'm wrong Lymepickle?) - so we're stuck with the 2nd generation of Cephalosporins I think?

well, I've been out of hospital and doing pretty OK for over three weeks, fingers crossed. Thanks for your well wishes, and same to you Flossie.

Hi Girlie... Ya no omnicef in Canada ... It's too bad because it's one of the better cephalosporins to use for lyme, has a longer half life than ceftin and crosses into the brain well. There is also no factive here either which is too bad because if I were to take a Fluorquinolone, seems like that would be the best choice as the dose is lower than the others and it is more effective.

There is one 3rd gen cephalosporin available suprax or generically it is cefixime. This one is probably about as good as ceftin or omnicef. Good thing about these 3rd gens is that they have a longer half life and so it isn't required to take such a high dose.

Just because it's "3rd generation" doesn't mean it's better! Dr. B cured his lyme into remission with just ceftin! Ceftin passes into the brain as well so it's still a good choice.

Girlie, I'm at a similar stage . . . going to continue with herbs for a few more weeks, and put rifampin (for which I have a prescription, with mino) on hold for a bit - just to buy me some thinking time! I did tinidazole, 3 days a week, with amoxicillin & clarithromycin on the other 4 days, towards the end of last year. I felt I made progress on it. I would actually quite like to go back on it as I only did it for 3 months and can't help wondering if I could have made more progress on it if I'd stayed on it for maybe another 3 months? I did get headaches on it (not every time, but most times) and flt a bot sleepy & groggy, but once that passed, I felt slightly improved.

I am also going to ask about herbals for Bart, and see if I can't add those in.

Hey Flossie! - I'm thinking of doing Tinidazole by itself on the two days. My LLND said to add it to my Ceftin/Biaxin - and pick any two days.

But, I'm thinking maybe I'd like to do the Tini on two days without the Ceftin (I stopped biaxin - due to a rash) yesterday. So that means Ceftin for 5, Tini for 2.
Although then I'm doing meds 7 days a week.

The other choice is do the tini for two days with the Ceftin, do Ceftin a total of 5 days. And take NOTHING for two days a week.
I like the idea of a complete break off antibiotics each week.

Hi girlie :-). Yes, I did tinidazole ONLY on three days of the week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) then amoxicillin and clarithromycin only on the other four days. Although I often felt groggy & headachy on the weekends, I would normally feel better by the Tuesday. Did this for three months, and felt I made progress, but then stopped abx and moved to herbal protocol. Would be really tempted to go back on tinidazole for another go though, just to see if I can make further improvement :-/. For now though I'm sticking with herbals for another month or so, then we'll see . . . :-/. It's all really difficult isn't if :-(

I find myself reading other people's posts who found improvement, then I'm thinking - hmmm, maybe I should try what they're on.
I have so much ambivalence with my treatment.

You guys have been at this for a while, but I just wanted to add that I did mino too, but not doxy. After 2 week of doxy my gut was so disturbed that I could not continue. I did all kinds of combos and mino was part of it. If I were to choose, I would choose mino. No gut problems or anything else, but then again, I don't pay attention to every little detail, I get plenty of distractions from my 4 kids. But my stomach was on fire, I couldn't go ahead with doxy. It may also be that I didn't take it correctly and my dr didn't tell me anything about probiotics. I learned from here more than from my regular PCP, that's for sure.
