Opinions on beta blockers

I am seeing my Cardiologist this week to discuss getting started on a beta blocker. I have quite a few dental appointments and a dental surgery scheduled, and in addition to the normal dental anxiety, I have my Lyme symptoms to worry about (SVT, dizziness, high bp during dizzy episodes, and many many PVC's).

I am quite nervous about being in the dental chair and something happening with my heart or getting extremely dizzy. Not easy for a dentist to just stop when a tooth is open

What are your thoughts on taking a beta blocker prior to the dental work?

My biggest suggestion to you is this - when you go to the Dentist, request that you get the Novocaine WITHOUT Epinephrine. Epinephrine alone can cause your heart to race, so it is most definitely not a good idea to combine beta blockers with Epinephrine. Epinephrine is combined with Novocaine in order to enhance it's effectiveness. All you need to do is maybe get a second shot of novocaine and the coverage is just as good, it just doesn't last as long. But that is a good thing, because you don't end up walking around with a crooked mouth all day. LOL
