My LLMD is a big believer in bio-identical hormone replacement supplementation during treatment of lyme and co, assuming the patient is at least low-normal in their levels. He said folks should have the levels of those in their 20s and 30s during treatment, to both feel their best and help recover. I am 36.
All three of my levels (test, estr, and prog) were low normal. I started supplementing about
a month ago, first with the testosterone and then added estrogen and progesterone on day 15 of my cycle. HUGE difference in energy, mood, and motivation, particularly after the testosterone. I had already been on thyroid meds for months, but this was a great additional boost.
I thought it was weird though, the progesterone was a pill that I took at night because it can make you feel sleepy. I felt drunk. So I ended up using it at the lowest dose only 3 times. Then I went for blood work on day 21 of my cycle and the results were that my estrogen and testosterone levels were great and progesterone was slightly high. I thought this was weird since I supplemented this the least of all 3.
I have been organic for years. I especially will not buy fruits or veggies that are conventional. I can't always say that about
meat though. Free range organic meat is just so darn expensive!
I think Utah hit a great point on the adrenals. I have been taking adrenal supplements the last few months, so that along with getting the bacterial load down, maybe progesterone has not been as adversely affected as the other two?
Finding balance with all these hormones is going to be key moving forward and then eventually weaning off them (hopefully)
