Wondering if 2625MGs/day of amoxicillins is too much...

I know the ILADs suggests 3000-6000mgs, but I'm wondering if even 2625 is too much for me. For starters, I only weigh 130 pounds. I've been herxing pretty bad ever since I moved up to 2625 (1 875mg pills 3 times a day). Before, when I would take 2-2.5 pills I felt great (after an initial herx of a few days when I moved up with the dosage). I was expecting this 3 pill herx to subside after a few days like all the other as I ramped up on the drug, but it's been a few weeks now and I don't feel any better!

I'm doing everything I can to detox. I'm going to give it a bit more time but sometimes I wonder if these drugs do more harm than good!

Actually, as long as you aren't allergic to amoxicillin, and taking plenty of probiotics, it is probably fine.

The truth is amoxicillin is probably one of the least toxic antibiotics available. Lyme Doctors actually change to this antibiotic when peoples liver enzymes or kidneys aren't functioning in a healthy way from the other abx they prescribe. So it also comes with fewer side effects compared to other antibiotics. I think the only real side effect is that it kills bacteria which is what it's supposed to do. (healthy bacteria included)

I was on 4000 mg per day and it was nothing.

Actually you know what? That makes me realize something, maybe I should get back on the amoxi because I had the least amount of symptoms when I was on that high dose amoxi.

I think it just seems high because we are often comparing it to other antibiotics which are dosed lower.

Twenty years ago, physicians dosed amoxicillin three times a day. Studies since then have shown that the same effects can be attained from dosing amoxicillin twice a day and that regime has less side effects and isn't as antagonistic to the GI bacteria. Many physicians never changed their prescribing practices. As for treating borrelia, I haven't seen any studies so I can't comment on whether 3 times a day is better than 2 times a day.

The reason why it's often prescribed 3 times daily is because amoxicillin breaks down and is metabolized in the body very fast. I think the half like is like an hour. But the 3 times per day dosing means you would have to dose every 8 hours. So when do we take the probiotics then?! We also need to sleep right! lol I had the same issue with amoxi and told me LLMD this so he said just take 2000 mg twice daily.

Yeah, I may have to lower my dosage. Throughout this whole process, I've always had trouble with the higher doses of abx...it's the strangest thing. If I were to take 2.5 pills (around 2000mgs) I would probably feel 90%.
