So I have been training for the 5 borough bike tour which will be on May 3rd (this coming Sunday). Super excited - this will be my first physical accomplishment since beating lyme. My husband and I went out to Cedar Creek Park. Did not set foot on grass. Got out of our car, got on our bikes, and went riding on the concrete path. It was SUper windy. The only thing I can think of is this tick just got blown onto me, because there were plenty of bushes alongside the trail. My friend said to stay away from that park, that they literally fall from trees onto you!! This this dog tick was only inches away from where I originally got bit by the tick that gave me lyme. Insane, gross, freaked me out. I know dog ticks usually only carry rocky mountain spotted fever (and its usually prevalent more out west, so i wasn't really worried, but I still couldn't believe it happened. Why did it land on me and not my husband, right?! So anyway, i learned ALOT from this little ordeal.
Teasel Root seems to be the herb of choice by the center I go to. They said that it acts as an antimicrobial and stops the lyme from manifesting itself. They say its the best weapon when you first get bitten. As an adult, you take 30 drops twice a day for 7-10 days. Just for the heck of it, because i was so freaked out, i had teasel root handy and started it anyway. I figured it can't hurt right? Absolutely not a single herx symptom. amazing. i used to herx from just 5 drops of this stuff. Proves that i surely have beat lyme. I stopped taking it after 3 days bc i figured there was no point. So here i am a week and a few days later back to where i was. this was the 4th tick on me in my life - and i am sure there will be more, but at least i will know what to do. What do you guys think about this protocol? On my bikeride sunday (did 25 miles), we went to a different location, and it made me miss hiking because we went over bridges and streams, the train went by in a distance, ducks were in the water, a cardinal flew across the path, a cat was hanging out in the bushes...... I LOVE hiking with the kids. I am telling you, after this year (because we need an entire year with no health drama!) we are going back - i am not letting these tiny critters keep me and my family from nature. NOPE!!!
Secondly, I also found out that the deer ticks are now in central park - hear this NYers??? People who live in the city go out to the hamptons for the weekend. They take their dogs along. Don't check their dogs, their dogs come back with ticks, they walk the dogs in central park, and there you go, the ticks hop off and find a new home. Just peachy right?? GROAN>>>
And last but not least, I asked if I should send in the tick just to see what comes back. They said not to bother. Why? Because studies now show that if the tick tests negative there is a chance that it could have transmitted all of the saliva which has all of the lyme into you, and no longer have lyme. WHA? HUH?? I couldn't believe this. Thoughts???!!!
