Antibiotics and Diarrhea(yes i said it....)

The first time I took doxy 100mg, no stomach issues, Now this time Im on it since Friday and Last night and today 3 times i have an upset stomach and Diarrhea. I am taking two different probiotics my LLMD gave me , one is 100 billion and one is 40 billion which I thought would prevent this from happening. Does this mean I have to increase my probiotics or what to make this to stop happening because I am sick of starting and stopping antibiotics all the time or is it not a big deal and is common with these type of meds?

I'm sorry you're struggling Myeezy! You should call your doctor just to make sure you don't have an issue with C. Dif.

Which probiotics are you taking? I was taking VSL at first because everyone says it's great. Then, I switched to Renew Life Ultimate Colon 80 billion. Quite frankly, I think it works better.

In a pinch, I bought VSL again. Since then, my stomach has been upset again more frequently. I'm going back to Renew Life. It has a time release, which I think works better. What works for you might be different. Maybe consider switching brands.

Also, look into S. Boulardii.

In the meantime, try upping your dose of probiotics and drink plenty of water.

I second above. Try Sachromysis Boulardii. This strain or probiotic is not included in most multi-strain brands. Florastor brand is suppose to the best and like all good probiotics it is pricey.

Maybe buy a small quantity from Walmart or another discount retailer, then order the rest on-line to save $$$$. After you get the diarrhea under control then maybe cut back to a less costly brand

Also make sure that you are taking the probiotics at least 2 hours away (afterwards is best) from the abx so that you aren't killing off the probiotics with the abx.

And you can and should eat before you take your abx - we are on high doses and we need to protect the stomach. You can also sip on ginger tea to help ease the nausea.

100 mgs at a time is a low dose and shouldn't be causing issues - if it continues after trying a few things, I second Lymie Girl's suggestion that it could be possible you have something like C-Diff, so you will want to contact your LLMD.

I recall that I read somewhere that Sachromysis Boulardii is one of the only probiotics that can be taken with an ABX due to it being more like a bakers yeast than other strains.
But I erred on the safe side and did what Treveler recommended.

my llmd gave me 2 different ones 100 billion and 40 billion both have S. Boulardii in the supplement facts, thats gotta be good i hope

Taking antibiotics can upset your gut flora. Sometimes, people taking antibiotics can get an infection called C. Diff, which causes bad diarrhea. It requires medical attention.
