Where would I find the astragalus?? & what form would I give to him or how much.. I'm confused
Did you see the links in my post above?
Here's what Buhner says about
the use of astragalus for kids:
buhnerhealinglyme.com/herbs/astragalus-for-kids/Talking about
: "two children, age 4.5 years and age 1 year. "
Buhner's response: "I would give them astragalus as a preventative. It is a very safe herb, used as a food (in making soups and rice) in China for thousands of years. You can just add 10 drops of the tincture to the diet of the one year old 3x daily. The other child can be given larger doses, say 1/8 tsp in food daily. If they do get sick the best thing to use is Japanese knotweed. Use the tincture, same doses."
Buhner recommended suppliers:
greendragonbotanicals.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-search.cgi?search=astragalus&IncludeBlogs=2&limit=201stchineseherbs.com/astragalus_root.html (scroll down for the different options)
For adults, Buhner says use astragalus long term as a preventative:
buhnerhealinglyme.com/herbs/using-astragalus/And for the doses:
buhnerhealinglyme.com/basics/astragalus-dose-discrepancy/He mentions "if you live in an endemic area - but don't we all any more?
"For prevention if you live in a lyme endemic area: 1000mg daily.
If you get bit by a tick, or if you notice a bulls eye rash, immediately begin taking 1000mg 3x daily, increasing it every week by 1000mg, so the second week use 2000 mg 3x daily, the third 3000 mg 3x daily, and so on. Essentially to ramp up the immune response markers needed to either prevent infection or reduce symptoms to mild.
This is essentially an immediate response to the onset of acute infection. There are some people who, I think, can use astragalus who have been infected for some time, but that is pretty much a case-by-case sort of thing and the dosage would vary considerably. "
I have had about
6 ticks attach to me so far this year (most of them I get while in town!!), so I've decided to just stay on a higher dose for now (3,000 mgs divided into 3 doses) since I tolerate it pretty well. 3 of those bites stayed quite swollen (with a very hard pea sized lump in the middle), red, and incredibly itchy for 2 weeks - yet I haven't developed any symptoms of Lyme at this point.
Rowingmom mentioned that she experienced increased inflammation when she tried it, and while I do have a small increase in my inflammation, it's not enough to deter me from using this as it has kept Lyme at bay for me.
I buy my astragalus in bulk and fill my own capsules to save money.
