I think your best bet is to just fly yourself to vancouver and see an LLND there. It really is the best available option here in Canada but the good thing is that the quality of the service is probably on par with that of an LLMD. Also they will be able to send you ABX in Te mail as LLNDs from BC can prescribe ABX.

Just wanted to add to what Lymepickle said. You can make the trip for the initial consult, and then after that do several skype or telephone appointments...These aren't too expensive.
I have seen him twice in person over 8 months of treatment. Most patients see him every three months, but I extend that to four to five months. It's not ideal over the phone, but the expense is too much for us right now.

So, you'll be looking at an expensive trip over...but after that, it wont be too bad.

Your other choice is finding a LLND in Manitoba, or going to the U.S. to see a LLMD.

I have a listing for one in Canada closer than that, but not by much. Is going to the US for treatment a possibility? I have a listing for a LLMD in New Prague and St. Paul, Minnesota.

There is a ND in Alberta who treats lyme disease...and another member here posted she can prescribe antibiotics as well.

I don't know if she is an ILADS member...but here is the link to the Physician Referral. When filling it out, make sure you put a radius that reaches far enough to include Alberta area.
The LLND in Richmond is an ILADS member. Ideally you will want a Dr. who is a member and has been trained by ILADS. This will ensure he/she is up on the diagnosis, testing and treatment of lyme disease.

There is an LLMD in Bemidji area (north west Minnesota). thats about 5 hr drive away?

Thanks Astro - that is pretty close.

So, I guess mtmand - you will have to weigh out the cost of going to somewhere closer like Minnesota, and paying out of pocket for the appointment ...and meds....or staying in Canada, travelling further, but if you have insurance - having a lot of your costs reimbursed.
I have claimed the travel to the LLND on my income tax, along with hotel cost...as our insurance won't cover that.

It's not an easy decision to make.

I won't be traveling anywhere at this point. I'm still hoping it's just a rash - insect bite reaction. That may be naive, but I have a stress disorder and can't take on much more stress at this point. It was not a black legged tick, which I understand are the only ones who carry Lyme.

I am concerned that info seems to say the 10 days of treatment with doxycycline which I was prescribed is not enough, but don't know how to convince my doctor to give me a longer course.

I realize ilads is used a lot here, but I doubt my family doctor has ever heard of it, and would just trust blindly in what it says just because I bring her a printout.

Do be careful with those assumptions about what types of ticks carry Lyme: canlyme.com/lyme-basics/tick-id/
There are actually several species of ticks that carry and can pass Lyme to humans - as well as other diseases.

If your doctor won't treat you properly for these infections, then you owe it to yourself, your health, your pocket book to find a doctor that will. I'm sure you wish to be healed as quickly as possible from these things if you do have it. There is only one way to do that - get treatment early and make sure it's the ones that follow science and not just opinions.
