CD57- does it mean anything?

I just received my CD57 bloodwork and my doc said it was high...157, something uncommon in patients with early Lyme disease. I meet w/ her Monday to discuss more about my treatment.

My questions are:

-Is it possible to still have Lyme w/ high CD57?
-Is it possible I am just dealing w/ mycoplasma confection and not Lyme if my CD57 is high?
- I have not been Igenix tested yet, and I'm wondering if I should get that in order to get more results that show Lyme?

Not sure how I should interpret these results. Thanks for any input.

CD57 levels as indicators for lyme has become controversial lately, which usually means more and more LLMDs are finding them to be unreliable in pinpointing information about infection levels.

Generally, CD57 indicates immune function so the lower the number, the lower the function. But there is also not a lot of agreement on what the threshold is for that delineation.

In context w/ clear sx, a low CD57 supports a clinical diagnoses. On its own, it may not mean much. So, your high levels might just mean your immune system is strong right now and may have little to do with whether or not you have lyme. You're also more likely to have positive serology lyme tests w/ a well functioning immune system, too.

No matter what your doc says about it, it's controversial. No one knows yet what makes the CD 57 high or low, but in some cases Lyme does. Although there have been some very severely ill Lyme patients with high CD57 numbers as well as some fairly lightly impacted Lyme patients that have had very low CD57 numbers.

It should only be used to "help" make the Lyme diagnosis from what I've read, not gauge any level of involvement of infection.

My understanding if it's low it's a bad sign. But otherwise, it doesn't mean much
