I have heard many people who have problems with certain sounds making them angry or causing intense ear pain. I had this problem pretty bad. Some nights I was unable to eat with my family, other nights I would get so angry at certain sounds I would lock myself in my room and cry out of anger. Well, good news! My ENT suggested trying a low dose antidepressant because it can sometimes help with hyperacusis (or when sounds seem really loud even when they are not). I went to my Family Doctor and she prescribed me with Effexor XR, a low does to start with, and the pain is almost gone! I also do not get irrationally angry at sounds anymore! Certain sounds still bother me and my ears still hurt at times, but it is drastically reduced. I suggest bringing it up to your doctor and giving it a try if you need a little help while you try to get better. For me, it was a life saver!
