If you do, you might want to read this article.
www.naturalhealth365.com/almond-milk-ingredients-1453.html
I guess I'll be making mine now. I'd like to have the money back that I spent on almond milk for several years!
It's hard to get raw almonds now too, but some food buying clubs have them.

I used to drink it many years ago - health food store brands...I wonder if those brands have been bought by the big companies and are doing this too.

I buy Silk almond milk because it doesn't have carrageenan. It's probably still not super good for you, but it's better than the kinds WITH carrageenan.

I make mine. But honestly it goes so fast I have to make it every few days. I like making it cause you know it doesn't contain all that extra stuff brands add to theirs plus you can add whatever you want to it. I use it in a lot of my cooking and chai teas. Best part is you aren't limited to almonds. I also do cashew and coconut milk too and you can use the pulp in recipes and smoothies afterward. But raw nuts can be expensive. I'm always looking for sales or better sites to buy from.

Good info Garden Peace. I was astounded when I starting researching the ingredients in this so-called healthy alternative. Now I make mine for our family. I do it several times per week and it takes 5 mins after the almonds have been soaked. The real reason why I keep making it even when I'm feeling lazy is the taste! My goodness the homemade version tastes so much better than the watered down versions in the store. Yuck! I cringe just thinking about
them. :)

I only buy Pacific, the Whole Foods 365, or the other certified organic brands unsweetened, so they have no sugar added. But it's impossible to tell how many almonds are used… It lists "almond base" first but in parentheses, indicates (water, almonds) so it's mostly water, which is to be expected, but how much?

I picked up a new product at WF the other day, and just checked it. Has stuff I don't want but they were out of what I normal get. But the good news is almonds is the 1st ingredient listed, probably because it's sold as being high in protein:
Orgain Brand Organic Protein Almond milk (certified organic, non gmo)
Organic almonds,
filtered water,
organ organic protein blend (organic brown rice protein, organic pea protein),
organic natural flavors,
tricalcium phosphate,
organic rice bran extract,
potassium citrate,
organic locust bean gum,
organicangar gum,
gellan gum,
sea salt,
natural flavor,
ergocalciferol (vitamin D2).

"Most commercial almond milk manufacturers understand that their mainstream customers, who are the bulk of their consumer base, are not looking for a health food, and don’t care about
almond milk benefits. They are looking for a non-dairy version of cow’s milk that looks and tastes like the real thing. - See more at: http://www.naturalhealth365.com/almond-milk-ingredients-1453.html#sthash.1eQGerMk.dpuf"
- thats pretty much why I consume almond milk, I'm allergic to cow milk protein. Most of the brands have an unsweetened version.
If I want the benefits of almonds, I eat almonds.
Pretty much any "fake" tasting food, even made with some natural ingredients, is not what people think it is. You cant copy mother nature.

Thanks. I was actually wondering how they grew what seemed like billions of almonds to supply the large demand for those cartons of almond milk. I will try to make my own. Probably the same for cashew milk. I usually use coconut milk now, I wonder how that is?

My LLMD told me to buy only Pacific years ago. I buy the unsweetened 30 cal one because it tastes most like milk to me.
I don't miss milk anymore except for cream in coffee. Almond milk is just not the same.
Yes, I've wondered how many almonds are in a glass!

I have it in the house, but it's more for hubby, although I do cook with it some. I prefer raw goats milk to be honest, as I have lactose intolerance - but I'm not at a point where I feel like I can handle having goats again....yet.

Actually, there are instructions on how in the link provided by Garden Peace - but I'll list them below for you as well.
"To make homemade almond milk, just take one part whole, soaked almonds to three (or four) parts clean water and blend in a blender, then strain into a glass pitcher or jar. If you want sweetness, add a few pitted dates or a few drops of stevia and a pinch of sea salt. Store this in the refrigerator"

How bad is carrageenan? I didn't realize that was something to watch out for.

I used to drink it till I got wise to the ingredients and then started making my own coconut milk. I make a big batch and then I pour in ice cube trays and freeze some.
I don't even use the coconut milk much anymore since I don't eat cereal and now add water kefir to my smoothies instead of coconut milk.
I guess I did this cause coconut is cheaper than almonds.
