How do I make tea with Buhner herbs?

If you started taking high doses of tinctures around the time you noticed an increase in insomnia, you may be experiencing a herx. Your insomnia doesn't necessarily have to be the result of alcohol ingestion. Bartonella caused a lot of insomnia for our daughter, so a bart herx might produce the same symptom.

You may be right about the yeast. The antimicrobial herbs are powerful enough to unbalance your gut bacteria, allowing yeast to flourish. Daily probiotics, either in the form of supplements, kefir, fermented vegetables, etc. are a must.

We use powdered herbs houttuynia, Japanese knotweed and cordyceps.

At night I boil water and measure 1/2 c into a small Pyrex measuring cup. Into this I put the herbs for all of the next day's doses (for us that is 1 tsp houttuynia, 3/4 tsp Japanese knotweed, 1 tsp cordyceps). Cover and let sit over night.

In the morning I stir and measure 1 and 1/4 oz into a shot glass and pour this into a larger glass with some water in it. I then drop the tinctures we need (ie for the 8 am supplements I drop in 5 drops of red root, 1 ml rhodiola, 1 ml ginger, 1 ml turmeric, 4 drops cilantro, 15 drops of CSA), down it all and drink a pomegranate shooter afterwards. My 13 yo daughter is getting pretty good at shooters! Ha ha. So our morning tea includes 1/3 tsp houttuynia, 1/4 tsp Japanese knotweed and 1/3 tsp cordyceps mushroom.

For the 3pm supplements, 1 and 1/4 oz are again measured and the tinctures added. The remainder is taken at 9pm, again with the evening tinctures (this time with no rhodiola, but with hawthorne and milk thistle added to the rest).

Make sure the herbs are suspended in solution before you measure into the shot glass. By doing this you are not only getting the hot water extract that you would get by straining the tea, but also an acid extract when the herbs are exposed to stomach acid.

Different extraction methods remove different constituents from the plant. So by drinking the herbs along with the tea you will benefit from 2 types, not just 1. Also Buhner says that by letting the infusion cool from hot, through various temperatures to cold, different constituents are extracted at different temperatures.

PS, The insomnia is most likely a herx, not necessarily from alcohol.
