How Long Does it Take

HI all. can someone tell me how long it takes to get better if you have had this 22 yrs? I got better for a brief period but have relapsed. I want to know....if I stay in treatment, will I notice improvements in 4 yrs? 5 yrs? I am at the 3 year mark now. I know its different for everyone, but I need someone to just give me a number somehow lol

Is there anyone out there who got better after this long sick? How long did it take?

I am just feeling so down right now. I was feeling so much better for a few weeks....I had my life back after 22 yrs..well 80% of it....and now its gone again.

Does the fact that a good period happened, mean I am on the right track?

So, your 'feeling better' was a month or so ago...well that's good.

And, the fact that overall you're better than before treatment is good, too.
As long as you're not getting worse...or just staying the same...that is definitely a good sign.

I'm sure there are many others who have gotten better after a long-standing infection.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the CD57 test - as I have read that some LLMD's don't even bother using it to monitor progress. - not reliable.

So, did your Dr. say it would take 4 years when he first saw you? - based on the length of time you're been sick, and your symptoms?

I've had it 22 years as well, and have been treating it for 3.5 years with a break in the middle. I've had some major ups and downs throughout so I know how frustrating it is to feel almost well and then have the floor drop out from under you. I don't know if I'd consider my dips relapses exactly though, I feel like as long as you're getting to higher levels of functioning afterwards then any downturn might just be part of the recovery process. I think your immune system can trigger herxes that feel awful but ultimately are beneficial.

From what I can tell the factor that seems to affect recovery time the most is your body's ability to detox the bacterial die-off products. If you have good detox pathways and support your body by using the sauna and detox protocols it allows you to treat more aggressively. It seems like most of the people who get better have to go through herx hell to get though to the other side. I admit that I have lost the faith at times though. It's just such a long arduous process that I threw in the towel after a couple years. I felt semi-decent and decided to take advantage of that and travel around overseas for a while. I didn't end up regressing at all which was encouraging. Now I'm back to the grind of herxing and detoxing and generally feeling miserable.

You might also want to experiment with different treatment strategies if you ever feel like you've plateaued. I started out with essential oils for a couple years, then did Buhner's herbs for co-infections and I just got a Rife machine a month ago and it is definitely effective. I can only use it for a few mins at a time which results in a 4 day herx. Since starting to use it my terrible sleep issues that have plagued me for a decade have pretty much gone away. Not sure if I can attribute it all to Rife or if I was already on the threshold to get rid of that symptom. But it does feel like a super powerful modality.

I saw in another post that you're in Toronto. I actually lived there for a while in the 2000s. I wish the health care system up there had some kind of a clue about Lyme. It just would have been nice for us to have gotten diagnosed sometime in the first decade or so of having it.

Change doctors if he really said this: " He told me I would begin seeing significant improvements at the 4 year mark."

Without significant issues blocking your healing, you should see significant healing long before 4 years!! I started feeling the improvements in just months - not years - once I found the right protocol for my body.

I was told by a very well respected LLMD (Dr. Edwin Masters-RIP) that I had every tick-borne infection. I am now dealing with the aftermath of having had active infections for 40 years with no treatment - and to be completely honest, I was reinfected with Lyme (last summer), but I healed from that with only 5 months of treatment.

And the best part? I healed with only using herbs. So find a doctor that won't slow your healing, that will work with your body to find what works best for it and be sure to do the work you need to (detoxing, eating well, exercising "just enough, but not too much" and drinking plenty of water).

I would encourage you to rethink visiting that practitioner simply because he does use herbs! LOL! There are many here that use both pharma abx and herbal protocols!!

Because I was infected for so long, the only thing I didn't have that was severe was heart issues - and to be honest, I was very, very grateful. My Grandmother passed away in the room next to me when I was a child from a stroke - it really freaked me out, and so heart issues really kind of scare me. So it was a good thing I didn't ever develop serious heart issues - only palpitations.

No, I didn't use any IV anything while in treatment.

While I admire and appreciate those doctors that are so willing to give of their time like that- the super busy doc's really can't give you the same amount of time and consideration a doctor that isn't quite as busy can. I would encourage you to look into seeing the doc in Uxbridge to help "supplement" your treatments at least.

And keep asking questions - even of the docs!!
