Yes, because the Paleo diet is only part of what can be done to help the effects of high blood sugar. You can check the symptoms list in the "New to Lyme?" thread to see that high blood sugar can be part of your symptoms.

Lyme can affect any organ, including the pancreas.

"Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism—the way the body uses digested food for energy. The digestive tract breaks down carbohydrates—sugars and starches found in many foods—into glucose, a form of sugar that enters the bloodstream. With the help of the hormone insulin, cells throughout the body absorb glucose and use it for energy. Diabetes develops when the body doesn’t make enough insulin or is not able to use insulin effectively, or both.

Insulin is made in the pancreas, an organ located behind the stomach. The pancreas contains clusters of cells called islets. Beta cells within the islets make insulin and release it into the blood."

Mine is fine I was JW cuz I was at my treatment the other day and heard a girl talking about it that was my age who said she's on the plaio diet too and has Lyme but she has high blood sugar and it got me wondering

I have this. My doctor just told me about it on Tuesday. It's so hard to deal with.

My 12 year old was just diagnosed with diabetes 6 days ago. We are still waiting for the results if it's type one or type two. They are leaning towards type one. I brought him in due to headaches neck pain being tired flushed and several red circles on his body. We asked the doctor to blood test for whatever xcould possibly be wrong. We left and waited for results, 2 hrs later she called and said to bring him to the e.r immediately. His blood sugar was at 602. He spent the night in the hospital and was stabilized with an i.v and insulin. Meanwhile waiting for the Lyme test results. Today they confirmed positive. Please help with any advice. Does Lyme cause diabetes? Does Lyme make it appear he has diabetes by messing with blood sugar levels? This all happened so fast. The doctors don't seem to know much so far if they are related. I will eventually ask he be referred to Rochester. I appreciate any a dive on a professional or personal level.

First I'd like to tell you how sorry I am that your son has Lyme. I am so glad you were pro-active in getting him tested. I suggest for you to introduce yourself to the forum in your own thread so others may respond with some advice for you.

Second, since you are new here and new to Lyme I would like to welcome you to our forum. I am so glad you found us.

Lyme is a unique disease in that there is not a lot known about it that is factual. It is mis-represented in a lot of ways and so it is important for you to get the correct information right from the start. The medical community are not all familiar with how to treat Lyme and so I would suggest that you find a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD) immediately. You can do this by going to the ILADS website and requesting one in your state. You can also post on here by putting in the heading "Looking for LLMD in (state or province)." It can often take a while to get in so the sooner you can get an appointment the better. In the meantime you will want to get him into some kind of treatment. We can advise you on that if you are interested.

Because you are new to the forum and new to this disease please check out our "New to Lyme-start here". It is the first post in the forum. It has some great information in it.

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. We are happy to help. Many here have children who have dealt with Lyme and would be glad to help in any way they can.

​ You will want to find a well trained doctor, not one that has self proclaimed themselves as a LLMD or an ID Doc (Infectious Disease Doctor), as ID docs believe Lyme is hard to catch and easy to treat, and don't believe in the reality of chronic Lyme. I have not read of lyme causing diabetes. I have read of numerous times where lyme did mimic diabetes.

I am so very sorry and this must be so frightening for your family.

602 is extremely high and I am glad that you got him help.

I am still fighting with my pcp on my condition of the burning feet is just neuropathy and at one time my A1C was 7.0 they put me on meds for it and now I am off med and it 5.6 so I know its lyme because of all the other symptoms I have is not how my friends that are diabetic feel ,burning feet moving to my hands ,cold hands and feet brain fog,,tight hamstrings,thumb joint arthritis,lazy eye problems that are always changing my glasses ,memory short term problems,,morning head aches,!

Hi, Tredye. Since blood sugar is the topic of this thread, I suggest starting a new thread to make sure you get the most views. Maybe tell us a little about your history, your current symptoms, and the types of treatment you have tried? Have you seen a Lyme-literate doctor or done any Lyme-specific treatment? Hope we can help you figure out some good options!
