So, I have a very high maintenance baby alpaca. She has a huge tongue and can't work out how to nurse, so I'm bottle feeding her. After the first night of getting up every 2 hours to bottle feed her... I felt pretty awful. But it's been a few days, and I'm not as tired as I thought I'd be. If anything, I feel kinda energized after feeding her.
Is there any hormonal explanation for this? What hormones are activated when you feed a baby? Could this have any healing effect on adrenal fatigue?
The really good news is she got enough colostrum and she's finally gaining weight! And we're down to daytime feeding only.

Oh yay!! I'm so glad the baby is doing well!! I'm glad you are holding up well too though(LOL), I was a bit concerned for you when I read about
this situation.
When you are very deeply connected to animals like I know you and I are, as well as many others, there is a connection deep enough to sustaining a life you care for. For me, it's not like feeding a my own child, but close.

Hi Sayyadina,
Awww, sounds like such a sweet baby! She's lucky to have you!
Serotonin is released when we perform acts of kindness, and serotonin is good for our bodies, including adrenals. I'm sure there are other feel- good hormones released too.
Years ago, I went into remission when I was caring for an infant.

I would expect dopamine would have something to do with it as well.
I don't know what things are released during "a runner's high", but I would bet all of these things figure in.
When my daughter was born she wanted to eat every 2 hours and I'm not sure what made me able to function like that but nature certainly has a way of making sure we can take care of our kids (biological or not).
I hope both you and the baby stay well. Try to get as much rest as you can. Honestly, I'm not sure how you and Traveler do it. I know everyone would enjoy seeing some pics of the baby.
Take care,
Kim

I think everyone nailed it.
And, happy for you and the baby alpaca that you're both doing so well!
Pics would be most welcome ;)
Please take good care of yourself and enjoy these precious moments.
