Bit by something and had a mild rash for 3 weeks. No pain, no itch, no symptoms. A month later I have head pain at the back of my head behind my ear. I am super healthy (a little over weight) but the head pain persists, no drugs work. My jaw aches, one of my fingers doesn't want to work. I research and think it is Lyme because of that bite. I find a Lyme doctor an hour away and have an appt later this month. My general doc did a lyme test at Quest and I was negative. Now my head pain is gone. I feel really darn good. Is this typical of initial lyme? I feel like I was crazy for the last 6 weeks.

Well, that's Lyme for ya...it cycles as the bugs live and die and reproduce......

Glad you put two and two together! Tests aren't accurate, you'll want to find a Lyme md (LLMD) or LLND... Lots of people are dx clinically based on symptoms..

Someone will come along to guide you, there are also herbs you can take to help erridicate this while building up your body...

Welcome to our community!! I'm so glad you found us!

If you haven't ​yet​, it would be helpful for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of important information, symptom lists, helpful links and pdf's, how to detox when one has these infections, information on probiotics and much more.

Quest is consider the worst lab in regards to Lyme testing. There are only two Labs that test for Lyme properly in the US. Most people use Igenex. You can contact them and they will send you a test kit with instructions, the fed ex return box and label and then call Quest and see which labs will do the draw. For me it was the Quest in my neighborhood. The results take about 3 weeks.

Read through the symptoms list. I know personally that I had many symptoms that I rationalized away.
The more informed you are the more assured you can be that you are either ok or you do need to proceed.

If you have any doubts see the LLMD. Much better to be safe than sorry.

Hi PeteZa, welcome to our community.

Because you had a bite, a rash, and symptoms, I think you should see a LLMD - one that is ILADS trained.

Symptoms can wax and wane, come and go...and I wouldn't want you to ignore a lyme infection and have it continue to replicate...as the longer it goes, the harder it is to treat.

Oh thank you so much. I have had such bizarre symptoms and I am 64, which means I KNOW you have to be your own advocate with a doctor. Back ache, nauseous, swollen knee but the head pain gets me the most. 6 weeks of this then all of a sudden I feel almost normal. It made me doubt myself. I go to a LLMD on the 18th and we shall see. I think I will call IGenX and get their packet so I can have it ready for him. At my age I know my body and something weird is going on and Lyme always turns up as the answer in my research. Thank you all again and thank you all for having this forum.

Pete I had 3 Western Blot tests from Quest after being infected and it came back negative every time. Don't think because the symptoms are reducing/gone you've beat it. Best to talk to a lyme professional and spend the money, time and resources necessary to ensure you beat this thing. As someone said before the earlier you deal with it the higher your chance of success to completely eradicate it.

Note you may also have co-infections most do when you contract Lyme. That head thing could be another organism so even more important to see a professional.

Went to my chiro today and felt euphoric. Easy to feel so wonderful when you are sick for 6 weeks and now not. I have never been sick in my life so this is all new to me. Chiro found muscles in knots but all else was fine. He says Lyme. I told him I feel like there is a dormant volcano in me..... just lurking, I can feel it. It scares me to think I will hurt again. This stinks.

I cannot imagine going years like this and it breaks my heart that many of you have done just that.

I count my blessings and am thankful for information like this.
