Finally found LLMD and was started on treatment with doxycycline a week ago. Lymes has still not been confirmed due to all tests in my country being unreliable according to my doctor and getting tested in germany cost $1600 money that I d don't have. The doctors 100% certain of lymey though.

Very happy with this but still strugglign with squeezing chest pain, nausea and excessive burping pretty much every day. Have been researching herbal helpers to maybe help and was wondering if Hawthorne or anything else yields results with anyone from here???

The other thing I am wondering is: I keep reading about co-infections and so forth, will doxy deal with them if I have them or would I need to switcharoo to other forms of treatments?

You will have to also use other abx if you have co-infections other than Anaplasmosis or Ehrlichia. Doxy will treat those infections, but not Bartonella, Babesia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and others.

And I don't know enough about Hawthorne to answer your questions, but I'm sure that others will be along soon to help out!

Hawthorne is an herbal shown to be protective of the heart and cardio system in general. It is recommended by Buhner when treating Bartonella co infection in particular.

While doxy can be effective for anaplasmosis and mycoplasma, it won't be enough for Babesia or Bartonella co-infections.

You will need to add another antibiotic to treat bartonella and an anti-malarial to treat babesia - if you are choosing the pharmaceutical route.

Or you can add herbs - or do both.

Doxy can treat a number of co-infections. However, everyone is different and it is not a guarantee. It is not really adequate by itself to treat Bartonella or Babesia, which are common co-infections.

Buhner has various herbal protocols for co-infections. He has updated protocols in his books. His books are pretty reasonably priced. You can check out his website to get an idea though. The website is no longer updated or maintained.

There are other herbal protocols, such as Cowden. Buhner is very popular. I find a combination of antibiotics and herbals is best for me.

You can also learn more about a particular her by doing a search in the upper right hand Search Bar. Or you can ask questions.

It is good to see an ILADS trained Lyme Literate doctor who can diagnose you based on symptoms. Then, you will know what to target and what meds to focus on. The "New to Lyme" thread has lots of great info, including symptoms lists for different infections. I have found it very helpful. There is also a lot of great info on detoxing.

Doxy can treat Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. However, it is not enough for Bartonella or Babesia.
