Are you talking about the mercury amalgams?

Well, I wasn't told anything about that, and i'm taking ALA plus I have the silver fillings.

You've got me concerned about it now...so i am curious to see what others have to say.

The other thing you can do is to take chlorella along with it, as mercury binds with chlorella and then the body can usher it out.

I take HM CHELATE by 'Pure Encaspulation'- it's FOR the purpose of removing metals and it contains alpha lipoic acid, chlorella, cilantro, l-methionine, NAC, zinc, selenium, and some other citrus derivatives.

I took the product before AND after having all my 'silver' amalgams removed= I had mouth pain when the amalgam were still in Vs No mouth pain using the supplement now!!!

I have the ALA +R as well, but I'm too worried to start it with all the reading I've been doing regarding the silver amalgams I have. Blah. I was excited to get started on a good "brain" detox. I'll have to bring this questions up to my LLND on Tuesday when I see her for my B12 shot. I'd love to hear from
other people on here though, as well.

JessicaMommy, I grew up with a mouthful of fillings, and that was back when the only option for fillings was the amalgam fillings. I was careful for a long while to take chlorella and cilantro, but stopped that after a while and have continued to take ALA ever since.

You need to check the sources of where you are getting your information. It's always amazing to me how different things get a bad name (think chronic Lyme patients for one!) simply because people start posing about it online without showing where they are getting the information from. Many doc's are completely against herbs and natural supplements still. I have had several tell me that I would kill myself by taking the herbs I have taken. It didn't kill me, but it surely did heal me! I would have never had a shot at healing had I listened to all the naysayers - even some very well meaning Lyme patients told me that I'd never heal relying on just herbs.

So check out where these people are getting their information from. If it's from their doctor, unless you know that doc, you don't know if they are for or against herbs and natural substances. If it's from a quoted article, then go read it to make sure they got the information right, and then you have to check the author's of the study! What are their financial incentives? Are they affiliated with groups that are against the use of herbs and natural substances?

I agree that those posts can be very alarming - that's why I'm posting about this to you. I've been through that, and chased my tail all over the place, trying to check out every single thing to be sure that I wasn't going to harm a body that was just barely functioning as it was.

What I learned most? Not to trust everything I read - people make claims based on what they remember their doctor saying or what they remember reading, which may or may not be the full picture. And there's no telling where that doctor's belief on that particular thing is. And, I learned that I wasted a LOT of time and energy chasing my tail looking up every little detail of what I was doing. I have learned a few good, reliable sources and bounce between them for looking up things.


If you have concerns about taking anything, talk to your doctor about it. Ask them to present you with reliable resources for information on those things. I tell my doctor that it's not that I don't trust her, it's that I worry less when I can read the information for myself. She's always been happy to talk to me about it, and provide places of good information when I ask.

I know around here, if a doctor wishes to use mainly natural meds to treat patients, they can't accept insurance!! Even though my current doc is a full MD, she doesn't accept insurance because they will dictate what the patient will take, as they can approve or not approve of meds & procedures. This state simply has no room for doctors that don't use pharma meds on everything, and the state laws governing "alternative doctors" (Chiro's, Acupuncture, Herbal, Natural Meds docs) proves this point. The only ones able to admit patients, order x-rays, write scripts and so on are full MD's.

So yes, there really are that many that are simply against any natural treatments of any kind. I've been told by 4 or 5 docs here that the herbs I take will kill me - yet they want to do unnecessary surgeries on me!! Hmmmmm, I think I'll take my chances with a good Herbalist and the herbs, thank you very much!!!

The thing with online searches, is that you can pretty much prove whatever you want to prove - it all depends on how skeptical you are of the sources you use. I'm very skeptical of the sources for my information whenever I can be, because it's really easy to prove that chronic Lyme is not a real thing, if you don't mind using only IDSA and CDC mouth pieces.

I look for author affiliations and at their past publications to help me see where they stand on different issues a lot of the time.

Traveler, thank you for your input. I just discovered ALA and, after ordering some, was horrified at what I saw online about it. Since it's been 4 years, I was wondering you are still taking it and how it is working. I really think my dad and my husband could benefit from it but I don't want to cause damage.

Yes, even after all these years, I'm still using ALA. I "accidentally" dropped off of it about 2 months ago, and realized it about 2 weeks ago, so I restarted. I just ran out of it, and because of the holidays/an upcoming surgery for hubby, I didn't get it when I should have.

Anyway, when I restarted, I didn't think much about restarting at the same dose I had been using - and got hit with herxing!! Boy, was I surprised!! It showed me that I definitely still need it!! I lowered my dose, and am continuing with using it just fine, and it's helping just like it used to.

I would encourage you to talk with a highly knowledgeable practitioner that understands how and why (at least some) people need to supplement with this, and the possible interactions with other medications//supplements, as well as the conditions that either your Dad or husband may be dealing with. No need to risk any interactions or issues because someone tried some supplement to improve their health!!

I'm always surprised at what I can find online about people discouraging the use of things that are actually good/helpful for us - even probiotics!! For most of them, it only shows their own ignorance about the subject, but sometimes,there are good reasons for concern. Every supplement and herb we choose to use has the potential to either help or harm us - depending on how it's used, the dose, and the frequency of dosing.

Ala,msm, and nac are all sulfur supplements and definitely can make you herx. I take msm and it got me feeling a lot better quickly once you get past the herx

Well I'm glad I didn't start taking the ALA i ordered and just recieved. I was too scared and definitely dnt want to feel sicker. It was recommended for my nuerapathy in my brain and its supposed to help your brain/neuro detox. I'm making an appointment with th hollistic dentist in CT who specializes in removing almagam fillings
