I thought I'd give my opinions on what Lyme Disease does to you internally because I've read a few posts and some people are missing the point. Borrellia is a bacteria, it just wants to live. When I say Lyme, I am referring to having borrelia.
1. Lyme increases the acidity of your body because of the constant inflammation. Our bodily processes are acidic in nature and the more it cycles through the inflammatory process, the more acidic we become.
2. Lyme lowers our immune response. Over time, the body goes through so many inflammatory cycles that it can run low on vital nutrients (substrates and cofactors). These are elements and trace minerals like magnesium, manganese, cobalt, selenium, boron, chromium, etc. When the levels of theses elements drop, the body will down or up regulate functioning to compensate. It's almost like an auto shut off switch.
3. Once your immune system functioning is lowered (less efficiency), other pathogens begin to thrive. They have their own set of problems that they create but accelerate #1 and #2 in this list.
4. When you have more pathogens, they need nutrients to survive and utilize the nutrients that we ingest so we get less nutrients. This makes our system function less efficiently.
5. Pathogens also can sequester metals to help them evade our immune response. These metals are aluminum, mercury, lead, cadmium, nickel, thallium, vanadium, etc. We have to deal with the increase in metals which can alter methylation functioning by blocking key enzymes. If we can't methylate properly, then other vital pathways are affected.
6. All of the above cause a change in your GI flora. Certain beneficial bacteria can't tolerate the metals, the other bacteria, the increase in acid (although a very small change), the increase in histamines, and the decrease in nutrients.
Many of you on this forum don't just have a problem with Lyme, you have an issue with other pathogens as well. They accelerate the issues above. The way to heal is to reduce your pathogens, reduce your acidity (got to be careful here), increase lost nutrients, reduce metals, and change your GI flora back to what it needs to be. Too many of us just focus on reducing pathogens when we most likely need to focus on everything. Your limiting factor is how much you can detox. If you can't detox, you won't be able to go very fast in treatment. That is why it takes so long, our ability to detox is reduced.
