I think oral antibiotics are many times worse than for example intramuscular injections, because
a) gut flora is directly destroyed by the antibiotic because it gets into contact with it
b) candida and fungi in the gut are unaffected by antibiotics (in most cases) and they start to grow out of control, taking advantage of the direct destruction by antibiotic on site
c) only a small amount of the ingested antibiotic gets in the blood stream, the rest goes through your colon and nukes all microbes on the way, good and bad
d) oral antibiotics have all sorts of extra chemicals that are contained in the capsule, that are usually not good for you in general
HOWEVER, iv antibiotics, while excellent under hospital conditions, pose quite a risk if used at home for a LONG TIME, because of potential infection of the catheter with MRSA or some other deadly pathogen.
Best are, i think, intramuscular shots.
