I've delt with it many times. Besides lyme ABX use, Candida is common with autoimmune issues, and it can go hand in hand with leaky gut. I first treated it 8 years ago before I did anything for lyme. I used herbs (below), corrected diet, went gluten free for three months, treated leaky gut - all on my own.
I'm familiar with P's use of powdered nystatin, which you get at compounding pharmacies, but I never tried it. I 've used herbal mixes like the popular Now brand Candida Support. And also individual herbs. You need to "change it up" with herbs, the candida can get use to it otherwise, I know this.
After ABX I got systemic Candida pretty bad along with oral thrush. Nystain in tablet form did nothing for me. So we nuked it with Diflucan tablets every day. That worked for me, used it for 2 1/2 months, tapered off at the end.
Note: Either the Diflucan anti-fungle itself or the candida die-off toxic load made me go further hypo than I already was. After its use my thyroid levels went back to what is normal for me (normal at my regular thyroid med dose).
We all have amounts of Candida, so you really just control it, not eliminate it. I can feel it come back if I eat sweets, junk food, or more beer ect. So I have to watch it during the Holidays.
I dont buy regular bread. Whole grain is not any better than white bread either. I only but true sourdough loafs of bread, which is fermented. I buy like 3 doughnuts a year. No candy bars. Gluten free Pasta only Takaria brand (spelling?). Way less pizza. More raw veggies - love sweet peppers, not hot. No sugared soda. I drink a lot of flavored herbal teas at home in winter. I like a cold brew in the summer (but never have been a hard drinker), and even tried some of the new gluten free beers, $pendy, but better for you, and no Candida beer burps LOL!
