Thyroid/Lyme

I got my thyroid tested and my Gyno told me to come in to discuss. I have severe temperature disregulation (chills when I get into a hot bath), cold feet, fast resting pulse, impossible to wake up in the morning, internal tremor upon awaking, losing hair. My Gyno put me on the pill in August and that has helped a ton with my other peri-menopause symptoms...

When I saw her in Oct as a follow up, I mentioned going to see a Lyme doctor and she shrugged it off. So, she's a nonbeliever in my opinion, which gives me pause about mentioning my current treatment (I'm afraid I'll get the "its doesn't exist" speech like I had with my Neurologist who then told me not to come back since I dismissed his diagnosis of fibromyalgia). I love my Gyno and don't want to be put in the "crazy" patient pile.

I really think the Lyme created the thyroid/hormone issues. My symptoms with my thyroid were some of the first to appear, along with my neurological problems occurred. Will they eventually resolve once the Lyme/Bart/Mold is under control?

Can I have my gyno treat my thyroid without telling her about the Lyme? I'm only currently on doxy plus homeopathics.

Also, when they give you thyroid meds, it is one dose that you can't lower or raise very easily? The reason I'm asking is that I sometimes abruptly swing the other way (sweats, hot all the time, etc)...then what? I once told my useless GP about the swinging between hypo and hyper symptoms, and he said "Oh that's impossible. We just test once a year."

I will also say that I went to the Stop the thyroid madness site and I am happy to report that I do have an appointment with a very highly regarded functional medicine doctor in our city who is recommended there. I made the appt back in July and it's in March. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated about starting to treat the thyroid now...Sorry if this is rambly. I feel like my life is so complicated.

Also, since you love your gyno, don't push it with her. Do what you can to get the treatment you need until you get in to see that Functional Medicine doc - they should be much more open to these thoughts and ideas that are "new" to everyone else.

Could you post the ref ranges?

And those were FT3 and FT4?

cr3ativegirl here is how I figure my thyroid. It is always so hard to find the middle range.

For your T3 you add 2.3 + 4.2 = 6.6 and divide that by 2 to find the middle which is 3.3 anything below that is low and anything above that is high. Make sense?

T4 -- .73 + 1.95 = 2.66 and divided by 2 = 1.33 so your 1.14 is a little on the low side.

This is how I figure where I am according to ranges.

Also as CD has educated me (and I thank her so much) you must remember that people that get their T3 and T4 tested generally have a symptom that warrants this testing. For example, getting lyme is the first time I have ever had my T3 and T4 tested. So ILL people get tested and the average is based solely on these ill people being tested.

We should get a bunch of well people to test and see what their ranges are, IMO.

You know what when I was healthy and vibrant I got an EKG, a CBC and a chest xray. I wanted a good baseline of "ME" for anyone to do a comparison of later in my life. I wish someone had of told me to get my thyroid tested.

Sheesh! Clinically, even I can diagnose my thyroid problems. I don't understand these docs that rely on tests and don't use their eyes and ears.

I will see if my LLMD will give me the prescription to get the ball rolling. I see him in 3 weeks. I am set to see a functional medicine doctor end of March (made appointment in July). I am hoping that she will handle all this type stuff and oversee my supplements because my LLMD is in another city and is like 80 years old and semi-retired and I have to fly to see him and realistically can't go to him for everything.

I have temperature dysregulation, too.

I'm shivering....then I'm hot and start sweating...but more shivering than sweating.

I had the finger indentation when I pressed something...also when I take my bra off in the evening, I have indentations on my back and in front under the boobs. It takes several hours before they go away.
Same thing with my socks and marks on my lower legs.

The bottoms of my toes used to be red when I would walk - just from the pressure...and my fingers, too. And pressing my watch button (to activate the lite) would hurt my finger.

My three thyroid tests are done in the last two years are good...so I'm blaming Bartonella.

Bluelyme - Interesting about the Salt. I've been revisiting the whole CFS methylation cycle thing over at Phoenixrising.com and they say the thing that gets rapidly depleted in the methylation cycle is potassium. I'm not sure how much to take though because I already take electrolytes. I did up my B-12 (took Jarrow sublingual) the last couple of days as well as took some potassium pills. Gonna try that for a couple of days. They didn't feel as numb and red, but who knows...

Girls - I'm thinking the dented fingertips are Bartonella too, since this got worse after my Lyme got under control.
