Darn It - It got ME too

I had posted about four or five months ago indicating that my son (29) had finally had been diagnosed with lyme -- after what we thought was about 13 years.

So, we got him lined up with a great LLMD in the States and have started his treatment; he's just entering his fourth month of antibiotics and currently on his fifth "round" of antibiotics.

In the late summer I took antibiotics for the first time in 10 or 15 years for a slight infection. And thereby unleashed a whole slew of symptoms over the last four months. Given my fairly recent reading on lyme, within the first month I was fairly certain and blood work has confirmed it. Lyme. I'll join my son now on the treatment wagon.

It's a rather futile inquiry now as to when we got contracted it - because we can never know. Two main possibilities - (1) based on my subtle symptoms, my lyme was decades ago and I passed it to him in utero; or (2) we both picked it up in the same place, as we hiked, skied, and camped while he was growing up.

I wonder, how many of you have multiple cases in the same household?

Wow. Scary. Intense.

Oh LymeMother, I"m so sorry!! But the good news is that at least you now know. Now you can get treatment and then get on with life, instead of unknowingly setting yourself up for a major illness when something that should have been more minor, lowered your immune function just a little too much. That would most definitely be harder to come back from.

As PeteZa said, it's actually fairly common for multiple family members to have these infections. Like your family, we have a tendency to go to the same places often. Somehow, my family lucked out and I'm the only one that was infected until recently (2014) when my hubby was infected for a very short time.
