Since Lyme, before diagnosis, I tried 4 different Physiotherapists. (for my shoulder blade area issues)
Two concentrated on my neck - stating it was only referred pain/stiffness....one did traction (which I did not like), with follow-up exercises, one just gave me two neck exercises, third one concentrated on my shoulder/arm rom - gave me exercises that actually hurt me and made me worse, the fourth - looked at the slight curve in my spine...and blamed it all on that. But told me to come back for exercises.
A chiropractor had also diagnosed me with thoracic outlet syndrome.
A Physiatrist told me I had frozen shoulder (duh!), but didn't even look or touch my shoulder blade area.
I saw another one yesterday - over a year since the last one I saw. I explained I did not want to do anything to make me worse...and I wanted to use almost the full hour on discussion - including an evaluation...She reassured me that their clinic emphasizes the client and involves input...before a therapy plan is drawn up.
I explained that my left shoulder blade wasn't as prominent as my right...and although I have almost full rom back since my frozen shoulder diagnosis...that something just wasn't right...my husband said the left shoulder blade wasn't moving properly.
So, she took my full history. She said not knowing my history, that she would have thought thoracic outlet...but knowing I have LD, she's not so sure. So, she did a good exam...and said my left shoulder blade was 'stuck' to my ribs. She was surprised no one had actually examined my shoulder blade movement. It's not moving right...and there is also muscle atrophy... I could have hugged her.
She did a very thorough rom testing on my left and right side (all the others just did my left side) and was very gentle. Then she asked me (yes asked!!) if she could do some work on my left side....but it would be gentle.
So, she did some kind of glides with her hands rubbing the shoulder blade area. She said we need to get it unstuck..and moving better.
It actually felt good.
She poked around to see if i had any muscle tightness...or tenderness...and nothing really hurt when she poked and prodded.
After I got home, I continued to feel better in that 'area' and this morning, it's still better than it was.
She couldn't believe that no one had actually worked on that area...
I finally feel like someone is going to help me with that area.
