A-Bart and Rifampin only?? Is A-Bart an antibiotic?

My doctor just added Rifampin 150mg 2x a day to my A-bart 15drops 2x a daily regimen for bartonella. I a taking NO other antibiotic, but I asked him shouldn't i be taking 2 abx not just 1 to prevent bacteria resistance and be more effective? He said that he doesn't want to overload my system and that a-bart should act as the other abx.

Is that right? Is A-Bart considered an abx?

If not, I have some left over zithromax 250mg or Doxy 150mg that i can add to it (without my doc's knowledge). I heard zithromax and rifampin is a better pair for Bartonella.

Also, I made an appointment with another doctor (i am currently seeing Dr.S in NJ) and it's in 3 weeks. Should i just continue to do what my current doc says and take A-Bart with rifampin or should i just add a second abx now? My doc says i have to take the rifampin 3 hours(!) away from the a-bart and being a college student that's kinda annoying to keep track of.

I am also taking houttynia and sida acute tincture, and japanese knotweed in powder form. I will probably only take houttynia if i add the 2nd abx and i will stop taking A-Bart because 3 hours away is annoying.

While herbs can hit you as hard/harder than abx it isn't a substitute in my opinion. I was on A-BART along with a few other abx and it did nothing for me. I'm currently on rifampin 600mg 1x a day. Sounds like yours is 2x a day and half the dose at that.

Why is he concerned about overloading your system have you had reason to believe it would be overloaded on more stuff?

If your other LLMD appt is in 3 weeks you might want to just continue with what you're doing so you don't complicate the understanding of what's working and what isn't.

A-Bart can be very powerful for some and they will heal very well while using it. Like all things, though - it doesn't always work for everyone, which is why it didn't help Rikky. It surely doesn't mean that it won't help you heal though. There are some very powerful abx like herbs in A-Bart. lymepedia.org/a-bart-byron-white-formula/

Use the A-Bart with your Rifampin. If you don't see any improvements, that's when you should talk to your doc. Don't add in anything else until you know how you will respond to the A-Bart/Rifampin combo - it could knock your socks off, so be careful and titrate up slowly! Having to stop everything and detoxing and then start all over with because you started off at too high of a dose or ramped up too fast is no fun and can be very frustrating!

Now I know why Byron White tinctures knock people's socks off sometimes.

According to the link Traveler shared, the tinctures are made in a 1:1 herb/alcohol ratio.

Most other tinctures are 1:5 herb/alcohol......20% as strong as Byron White's.

I was on 2 antibiotics and tried a-bart, but it was too strong for me, so i stuck with just the antibiotics and they worked fine.

yes, i agree with traveler, try the rifampin and a-bart first, then after you reach a standstill, consider another antibiotic, but I would not do it without your Dr's knowledge. If you don't trust your Dr, maybe you can get a second opinion? It is so important to be comfortable with the Dr who is treating you.

As you know, we are using Doxy, Rifampin 150, 2x a day and Abart and seeing Dr. S. We are FINALLY at 15 drops 2x a day... took 5 months to get here, and it's beating Andrew up, but we are staying the course. He takes a good 2 months to really detox after we hit a total dose level.

I'd like to hear who you see that is new and how you do as I'm never sure what we should do next, if you don't mind.

Dr. B told us last week about a couple of cases (and I already knew a couple) of top dr.s in the nation that gave up on patients, could not get them well, tried SERIOUS protocols that did not work, but the simple ones ended up working, etc. I think the dr. really doesn't matter, I think it's hitting the right thing that work in that indiviual's case.

There is a place in NY you could go. Full analysis and tailored to your personal "mess", but very expensive....

Rikky1, he says that i have a Mthfr mutation (but i looked it up and it's like the least harmful one, almost the entire population has it). And yes I KNOW he's starting me on half the dose but he doesn't know that I KNOW that. Meaning, he didn't even tell me that it was half the regular dose but i've known from reading boards that the correct dose for rif is 600mg a day. Things like this is why i'm leaving him and trying another doctor. At least tell me your putting me on half a dose.

To Traveler and everyone else, I'm completely okay with going full dose with EVERYTHING and he knows this. A-bart for me is...not that bad. I think even the Buhner herbs gave me more of a reaction. My a-bart is almost done and i'm not wasting another $60-$90 on another bottle.

I am not one of those people that like to slowly go up little...by little...by little. If i'm still having symptoms then i obviously still have the disease so give me the full dose. He's wasting my time (and money) taking baby steps.

And Lovemychildren, my appointment is Feb 19 so i'll email you to let you know how he is. It is Dr. E in Flemington NJ (it's a he not the female Dr. E). He spends $45mins with you for the first appointment!! And he's only a little bit more expensive than Dr. S ($350 +$30(for blood work). Follow up appointments are $150.

afiya4health - when dealing with lyme, sometimes baby steps are necessary. Your body is overwhelmed from the infection, so if you overload it too much with treatment, it can lead to toxicity and more problems. I know how you feel, you wanna nip it in the bud, but patience is key to healing.

I know someone who is on the half dose because her LLMD says it IS the right dose...and he won't budge - says 300 mg daily is the right amount...and 600 mg daily won't be any better.

So, are you sure your Dr. believes that 600 mg is the dose? You can ask him at your next appointment.

Also, the second antibiotic is used to avoid resistance. My LLND put me on an antibiotic first...and then a month later added the Rifampin.
I don't know if the A-Bart would work the same way to prevent the antibiotic resistance.

Afiya4health: I herxed really badly on the lowest dose possible of ABab, I can't even imagine what state I would be in if I started on my LLNDs recommended dose which was more than double what I started at. Everyone has a different toxic load and the to eradicating our symptoms is to take things slowly and listen to our bodies. I'm super impatient too but I'd rather take things slowly and give my body time to adjust than go into overdrive and pay for it after.

My advice would be to just be patient with the process, this is some heavy duty bacteria and our bodies are already taxed from it. Good luck!
