Herbs by their nature work synergistically, so it depends on wjich you are combining, or thinking of combinig together. Stephania may potentiate the action of other herbs, for example. But it also depends on the individual responses and the different doses to the herb (for example one person will have a side effect from a low dose, others from a much higher dose, some will experience no side effect at all).
What ever protocol you are thinking of taking it is worth looking into what it contains so that you can research those specific to the protocol. (Buhner for example goes in to detail about possible interactions/side effects with both other herbs and pharmacuticals in his book). You will then become aware of any problems/benefits that others have experienced. And of course noting your own reactions as you add the herbs to the protocol. If you start them individually at low doses and increase the doses slowly then you will be able to determine this more easily.
I don't know if that helps at all, lol!
And I agree with cd and national geographic - too much mercury in tuna ;)
