Are the Elispot and Ispot the same test?

My doctor told me they are the exact same test. However, the Elispot is sent to Germany while Ispot is done in U.S. Also, it appears the Elispot is half the cost of Ispot. This doctor we are seeing likes the Elispot/ispot and the IgeneX western blot. But feels the Elispot/ispot is the better test.

My daughter got a solid positive:
1) BB Fully Antigen +10 <2 ref range
2) BB OSP Mix (Osp A, C, DbpA) 1 <2 ref range
3) BB LFA-1 +2 <2 ref range

The fully antigen is B31. She didn't have much reaction to the mix. It only took a week to get this test back.

Curious if they are in fact the same test. My youngest and husband are being tested next week and want to do the best one.

Really?! From what I read the ispot uses elispot technology. How are they diff?

Now you have me thinking. I was going by what my LLMD said. So ones right and ones wrong.

Its confusing. The iSpot (written this way) uses Elispot technology,.......but maybe adds another step?

I know iSpot looks at YOUR killer cell reaction from your blood (effectivness and #'s) to a sample of know lyme bacteria in the lab.

In the states you blood is sent overnight with a cool pack. How does it survive going across the ocean? Unlike Igenix, they look at killer cells, not antibodies - is fresh blood a factor then?

I have no idea. I don't want to waste more money on this test if ispot is better. Did you have ispot? If so, do your results look similar to my daughters?

So it appears the iSpot uses more methods than just the Elispot so it would be more accurate? Probably why it is double the cost. I may see if I can call and talk to someone. I was interested in seeing what results are listed on an iSpot test.

The test provides two values if I remember correctly.

1)One number of the killer cells in you. It has a range they came up with from sampling 400 healthy people.

2)And one number representing how strong they are against known lyme bacteria from the lab.

BUT if your killer cells are too low in numbers to get an accurate "fighting strength" measurement, the test cannot provide the answer to #2 above.

This was around $400 awhile a go. I had no western blot from this lab.

I think I have my results in my computer. But it seems to me it measures your fight against borrelia. It is often coupled with western blot. Since I already had igenex western blot positive, there was no need for that. I only did the other part of the test.
