Moms/Dads treating young kids with Lyme

Hello,

My 4 year old was just clinically diagnosed with Lyme. I'm still questioning if he really has it, but maybe this is denial.

Please share with me your treatment plan, detoxing methods, diet and anything else you do for your child.

Right now, my son has started 3 weeks of amoxicillin-I'm working on how we will get that extended. I also feel I need to get bloodwork ran.

LLMD are booking months and months out 😥 I don't have the confidence to do an herbal protocol on my own...

As far as his diet, I'm doing little to no gluten/dairy/sugar, We are not perfect here. I try to have him drink plenty of water, but this is challenging also. He averages 11 hours of sleep.

I plan to start Epsom salt baths. 2000 IUs of vitamin D, probiotics. I want to start other vitamins, but feel I need guidance with this.

I'm not sure what else to do for him, or more so how to do detoxing with him. For my detoxing with Lyme, I do lots of things I can't see him doing: dry brushing, drinking apple cider vinegar, strict diet, etc.

Thank you for any help. My anxiety has increased hugely in the past few days since my son was diagnosed.

Welcome to the board. I'm relatively new myself since Dec 2015 and we have a 14 yo DS with Lyme, babesia and mycoplasma. His symptoms for the last 2 infections came out while he was on his initial treatment of doxy for 30 days straight. This can happen if your child has co-infections which many patients do. You will get lots of help I'm sure from others on the board. There are parents here that are further along the path. It's an incredibly welcoming place. Also be sure to read the New to Lyme at the top of the board for additional information.

Good luck and be sure and make time for yourself too - it can be a long journey to wellness particularly depending on how long he has had it. I know I spent endless hours initially just trying to figure out what the heck this all was which is why I started the website.

My son was diagnosed clinically just before his third birthday. He's four now. We have been treating him herbally with Beyond Balance products. For detox, epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide baths helped a little. We also use a Beyond Balance product called Cognease Detox, which helps with neuro issues and *really* cut back on rages. After he plateaued, we learned that he needed something more to attack biofilm and that he had parasites. We are working through those two issues now. For diet, we had food antibody testing done for him, which was invaluable. We learned that he was intolerant of a lot of things were were giving him on a regular basis, like eggs, almonds, peanuts. It also showed that he was intolerant of things that I never would have guessed, like green beans, asparagus, and basil. Once we removed all of those things from his diet, he had some improvement. Occasionally, we try reintroducing some things, but with most of them, he has had symptoms like rash and irritability. I think that once we take care of his parasites, his gut may heal better, and then he should be able to tolerate those foods better.

I am not sure if this chronic or acute...he woke up a week ago and wouldn't walk, and his knee was/is swollen. He has only been diagnosed clinically, no bloodwork ran as of this time. We all have been bit by ticks, as we live in an endemic area. Today, he asked me to carry him because his foot hurt, and he mentioned his knee a couple times again. We are on day 3 of a short term treatment of only amoxicillin, and this frightens me.

I happen to have Thorne childrens vitamins for one of my other kids, good idea!

Nosilla, have you treated your son herbally on your own or with help? If so, what type of practitioner/dr?

all of my kids were treated in 2014 and my youngest was 3 at the time. if you have time, try to read thru the toddler threads that were bumped up on the forum from 2 years ago that i started, there's loads of info to read thru.

my 3 year old was treated with amoxicillin for 3 months. the Dr felt she was young enough and didn't think she needed probenecid, but it sounds like her case is milder than your son's. she was also on an herb, called AL complex. and vitamins, extra vitamin D, coenzyme Q, fish oil, probiotics. Not too much stuff - sounds like you are on the right track, but you do need to get him on some herbals.....amoxicillin alone may not be enough, especially if he has coinfections you may not be aware of.

what makes you question if he really has it? maybe you could share your story with us - its hard to accept, but its so important that if he does have it that you treat it fully!! you found a great forum, we are all here to help!!
