for what its worth i think its likely that bartonella combined with Lyme is a likely mechanism for causing the body to make these erroneous fibres from its Keratinocytes as documented in Morgellon's.

bartonella is known to infect these specific cells in the skin intracellularly - and bartonella is also known to have a rare ability in the world of bacteria - that of a Type4 injection system - which is a means of inserting DNA changes into the DNA sequence of the cells it infects. changing the DNA can change the proteins that that cell makes - This could account for the infected cells making the protein fibres that sufferers experience.
These are indeed real - made of keratin (a protein normally made in the human body - the same substance as hair or nails).

there are unsubstantiated claims of insect DNA etc being found in the fibres - but these are not real - and are based on misunderstandings or poor science. simply - something is causing the human cells to make impropriate fibres.

lyme disease is highly associated with the condition - and may have a role in the disease - either as a direct cause - or simply a necessary immunosuppressor that needs to be present for the fibres to manifest. but because bartonella goes everywhere lyme goes its difficult to fish apart - we don't know yet.

other infections - including fungal infections like candida may play a similar role in adding to infectious load and suppressing the immune system

systemic candida is a prominent problem in AIDS patients - and was often what killed them in the early days before antiretroviral drugs were developed to treat it - but to my knowledge skin fibres were not reported in those cases - even if the people had infections long term - so i think it unlikely that candida is specifically implicated.

systemic candida of varying degrees is also pretty common in Lyme sufferers - the combination of the immune suppression that lyme causes - and multiple courses of antibiotics are both risk factors.

Before and during my tick infection treatment, my gut health was shot, I was easily susceptible to re-occurring Candida Albicons internal (oral and digestive) and minor external symptoms.
