My son has had a dry cough that he explains as more of a tickle in his throat cough since Nov/Dec 2015. Honestly, it gets pretty annoying sometimes! It is worse in morning and night, seems to flare maybe every 10 days where he can’t sleep because it’s non-stop and ends up taking cold medicine to get to sleep. If you have followed his story he has had no heath issues until Sept 2015. He had a bug bite on his upper thigh with a medium red bump. I found a bug attached to his collar bone and pulled it off but was not sure if it was a tick. It kind of fell apart which I wouldn’t expect a tick to. Anyway, his coloring looked off and he did mention a week later that he couldn’t catch his breath one night. He chalked it up to being paranoid because a girl had an asthma attack at school.
The following week he had his yearly exam and pediatrician gave him meningitis vaccine which is now a state requirement for 7th graders. The next day his lymph nodes in groin swelled up, he felt spacey/sick, muscle twitching, yellow skin with dark circles under eyes. He missed 4 days of school. Shortly after he got a bad cough and had more breathing episodes which I even took him to ER once. Then it was swallowing issues. He was treated with probably 10 weeks of amoxy then I think omnicef (not sure on that could have been amoxiclav) for the cough and possible lyme. He is Negative on IGeneX (but had an IND on lyme specific band), lowish wbc, cd-57 is 189, high uranium level (from well water), and high titer for Chlamydia Pneum. Went on Buhner’s pneum protocol, did doxy, amoxy/probenecid and some more herbs for 2 months. I do lots of other things like vit d, detox baths, smoothies with green powder, organic foods. A month ago he had fungal/yeast rash on his scalp which cleared quickly with antifungal and yeast/fungal shampoo.
He looks great, good energy, no other symptoms but this dry, irritating cough has persisted. It does not get worse when he exercises, if anything, maybe it’s better. We are going to our very unknowledgeable lyme doc on Monday. Any suggestions on what could be causing cough? I’m asking to re-test Chlamydia pneu to check titers, possibly test myco pneum (I’m high). I’m wondering if I should think about babs or yeast. Possibly biofilm? The other thought I had was maybe asthma.
