I've been on NatureThroid since February. Up to 1 1/2 grains now. My last lab showed no change in my FT3, FT4 and my reverse T3 has went down (from 16 to 11). Also, I now have TPO antibodies (still low - 7) where I never had a measurable amount before. My PCP did an outdated thyroid panel a couple of weeks ago which did not include FT3 or FT4. However, it did have TSH and it has went up even more (now 2.72). I thought my TSH was supposed to be less than 1 but it's climbing on Naturethroid. Does that mean anything?

I don't feel all that different on the naturethroid. I'm wondering if I even need it if my levels are not changing. Maybe something else is coming into play here.

Is there a proper way to wean off naturethroid? I have googled and haven't found anything.

Labs
FT3 3.0 (range 2-4.4)
FT4 .97 (range .82-1.77)
TPO 7
Reverse T3 11.2 (range 9.2-24.1)

I dont remember your past post, so I can only provide basic thyroid info.

You can only compare thyroid labs that are from the same lab, with blood drawn the same time, and the same time frame from your last dose.

Thyroid med should be absorbed increasing the two measured hormones which in turn should decrease the TSH.

You cant take other medications or vitmins/minerals within 4 hours of thyroid meds, or they will absorb the med, and you gain nothing.

Food should be the same time after med too.

Anyone on thyroid meds need a routine to stick to, otherwise levels will change.

If your levels are not going up with med, its because:
1) something from the above
2) your going hypo faster than you are increasing med dose
3) you have a rare condition called thyroid hormone resistance
4) your blood is for some reason, not absorbing this thyroid med

The free t3 and free t4 shows how much hormone is available for cell usage in the blood stream. We do not have a test showing what your cells are using yet. I dream of that day. The old "uptake" test tried to do this, but its not accurate.

Oh, you have to ween of it the same slow steps as you started. The first few day will be great, this is mis-leading as you will then feel the body adjust for the next month.

Instead of stopping it, why not try to change to NP Thyroid brand, and see if that is better. Acella is the manufacture, any pharma can order it. Many like it.

I definitely take meds within 4 hrs. I was not aware of that. All my doc said was 30 minutes before eating or drinking. So I set my alarm for 6 am (take thyroid med) and then get up at 6:30 a.m. and have coffee. I take my morning meds at maybe 9 am. Those meds include Green Dragon Core Protocol (JK, cats claw, andrographis), vitamin c, sometimes NAC, monolaurin.

He didn't start me out slow. Started everyday with 3/4 grain (no change) so up to 1 grain (no change) then up to 1 1/2. This is an integrative practice. Maybe I should consider a different thyroid doc. Do you see a specialist?

Be sure you are chewing or mash up the Naturethroid - it has a coating that needs to be penetrated before swallowing.

I was told that the b vitamins, iron, and anything with calcium has to be 4 hours after or before taking your thyroid meds, but other than that you are good with taking other things within 2.5-3 hours after or before. My T3 medicine basically says take 1 hour before eating.

So could the coffee be messing with it? I also put cream in it (calcium). I hardly ever wait more than the 30 min.

Yes K07 --- you definitely need an empty stomach while it's being digested. 30 minutes is a must, 1 hr is better---before consuming anything else.

I agree that you probably don't need a full 4 hrs before ingesting most other meds/supps/foods but definitely those specific items listed.

I take NP, was on all the other brands years ago, including NT.

My routine is: #1 brush teeth, THEN morning NP dose when I wake, I grind it up with my teeth take sublingually. 45 min after is when I eat, every day. If I do coffee, its 1.5 hours after. Any interfiering meds/supps are 4 hrs after.

I take dose #2 at 3 pm, sublingually.

T3, synthetic or natural is not effected by food proteins, it does not work that way at all, it goes right to you blood. However, T4 is effected by food proteins.

That why I take the PM sublingualy, there is food in my stomach, but I bypass it doing sublingual.

I only take mine once a day.
