Yes, ferritin is the stored iron, its a type of protein. My other iron results (hemalobin and others I can't think of now) were normal, but on the low end of the range, but don't state low.
Now, I don't trust my GP very much, but in this instance where ferritin is concerned I am putting what little faith I have left in conventional medicine on this. Taking and iron supplement is supposed to increase ferritin.
And eating iron rich foods, which don't agree with my GI issues quite yet, so that option is limited!!!
I think, and my brain fog is worse today blah, but I think ferritin is iron from your blood that gets converted to a different form (the protein maybe?), and becomes what we are calling "stored iron". But I don't think you can just increase ferritin on its own, which is why you need an iron supp. Take iron, increase that amount that gets converted resulting in ferritin.
I think that's what I found. With all the research I've been doing I can't always keeps my stuff straight, or remember to give the cat water!!!! Oh boy
I wasn't low a year ago, but BLAM, s**T hit the fan and everything went.
Have also heard that our wonderful friend Babs eats iron.....evil little buggers
