You should have your Free T3 and Free T4 tested soon, that is the first step. Again, many Drs skip this. Dont skip it. You NEED to know both of these levels.
Replacement Levothyroxin which is synthetic T4 hormone will only replace T4. That approach works for some people, but not all. Dont settle for a Dr who guesses. Drs with an
open mind will test and treat both if needed.
Some people are low on T3 as well and their body might not convert the T4 storage hormone to the active T3. In those cases they also take T3 medication like cytomel or a natural combination like Armour. If you need both hormones and only take T4, you will remain ill.
And patients who advocate T4 only............well it worked for them by luck. And good for them, but we are not all the same. So get all of the testing done and you will be off to a good start.
Note: Endocrinologists are not always the best. Its like seeing and infectious disease Dr for lyme - close mindedness. Any regular Dr with an
open mind should work. LLMDs should know proper thyroid detection and treatment, but not all will.
As you might suspect, Lyme and low thyroid can have similar symptoms, both can effect everything. So get those two hormones tested and treat to proper levels. Dont let the Dr treat by using TSH to him/her guide only.
