Mav, I worked for a truck delivery company for 25 years and I do know this in regards to drug testing.
The initial employment drug test is generally not one for alcohol (DOT type test). But if there is an accident the company can request that the employee take a drug and alcohol test.
If you plan to test for alcohol, it is important to note the amount of time that alcohol is detectable in the human body. In hair, alcohol is present for up to 90 days. In blood or oral fluid, it is present for 12-24 hours. Finally, in urine alcohol can be present for 6-80 hours (depending on the method used for testing).
Now the alcohol in Buhner's herbs is minimal and can dissipate with just letting it sit on the counter for a few minutes before ingestion. But, there "could" still be traces of alcohol in your blood, saliva or hair.
My recommendation is get a script from your llmd that the herbs are prescribed. I don't know how hard core your company is on this issue. My company found it a convenient way to get rid of disliked employees. You hit a tree limb and it was an accident and you could be tested. Undesirables were always tested, favorites were not.
Another thing is, check on this, I do not think they can prove that you were intoxicated at the time of the accident. Legal issue for sure. Because alcohol remains in the system for such a long time. This would be a lawyer type question or in my case one that I would have taken up with the shop steward or union representative.
Best advice is drive super careful!!
Congrats on the new job. That is awesome.
