Lyme experts WWYD? Thinking of canceling LLMD appt.

don't cancel it. it is better to have someone knowledgeable to help you go through this

I won't tell you what to do because I don't know your doc. He/she may be really good. But I will say I dropped my LLMD after two visits because frankly most MDs are only trained in pharmaceuticals. Mine was willing to work with herbals but she just didn't know anything that I didn't already and became exceedingly difficult to contact on matters of crisis (i.e. Liver pains). Also rather than helping me understand my own process she was just hijacking it which is no use when I only see her once a month and things change that I need to be on top of. I am kind of over MDs as a whole personally. I don't like their attitude. I don't like their philosophy. I don't like how difficult they are to contact. I got an LAc now just to help keep up with bloodwork and am just going to start with Buhners and expand my knowledge of herbals from there. Hopefully my LAc can help with some more functional medicine stuff as well. When it comes to Lyme though, it is very much a self-treat kind of illness. Whether you're on abx or herbs, you really have to do the research and make every decision yourself and feel your way through. Docs can be helpful for pharms and lab work, but in my experience that's where their helpfulness ends. Whether or not $900 is too much simply to gain some perspective is up to you. I would do it if it's not too much, but wouldn't lose any sleep over it otherwise

I hear you on the MD issue. This guy is supposed to be different - he is trained as a psychiatrist, does do herbs and homopathic treatment as well as the abx. Apparently he is excellent at putting the pieces of the puzzle together. I guess I'll go - I may need him to treat my son. I can experiment with myself but not doing that with my kid. Maybe I got all this to see symptoms and realize my son has it. Who knows. What I do know is I appreciate you all so very much.

Well, if he does do herbs as well...then it might be worthwhile for you.

He may be able to help you with sleuthing out which co-infections you have...and if you need additional testing...or if you need Candida treatment.

I have to agree with Psil when it comes to the attitude towards MD's. I just met with one, but made it VERY clear up front that I wasn't interested in abx. He does do the Byron White formulas and he just started about 10 of his patients on LDI. I told him that I am doing herbs and that's really where I feel comfortable. Now, understand that I sought him out because he offers some therapies that I was doing in FL. That being said he's supposed to be pretty good. We actually had a really good 1st consult @ 600.00. He offered his perspective on all that I had done thus far and he is trying to plug some holes. So we will see how it goes. He is VERY focused on my adrenals right now. And we discussed LDI, but if I did that I would do that under my 1st doc. Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that I would call his office and find out if he treats with herbs. I would let his staff know that you are very interested in meeting with him, but you aren't interested in abx protocol.

You guys are the best. Reading through this I have decided to keep the appt. He spends two hours at the first consult really listening to you and people do swear by him. He does muscle testing with different herbs, abx, etc... to see if they are right for the person (never have done that but willing to try). I agree about being treating like a human. This guy supposedly really gets it and puts it all together. I'll go. The one thing I read about him, and I don't know if it is true, is that if you have a question, he charges $350. Someone said they called and spoke to him and then got a bill. If true, that is outrageous. I will call Monday and ask about herbs/homeopathic choices. I do realize that if I do have co-infections I may need more meds. Thanks for pointing that out psil.

We have all been there. I think it is a combination of them not really believing in Lyme and not knowing how to treat it properly. I had similar happen with my internist of ten years - didn't even get on the phone to tell me high risk my tick was. Had the asst. call (or return my call after calling every day for results) then emailed me to say I needed to find an LLMD that they couldn't treat me. Not how you deal with someone nervous and newly diagnosed. There are good ones out there too, we need to remember that.

That is a nice person! They do exist and I think most of them are on this board.

You've already decided to keep the appt, but I just wanted to chime in here with why not keep the appt? Even if you only see him a few times, it might lead to a much greater understanding of what you need or where you need to focus more attention in your quest for healing.

One thing though - you have to promise that you will let us know what happens at that appt!!!
