Anyone get swollen lymph nodes under the arm pit? Is it worth getting checked out?
When I mentioned it to my LLMD in Sept she didn't look at it or seem concerned. But I feel like it went down a little and is now back.

Do you mean "in" the armpit..or below it?

I never had one there, but I did have one that was sore and swollen - in the clavicle area (left side)

..it is finally gone!

I did have one pop up for a few weeks behind my right ear.

It may just be a swollen Lymph node- since you have noticed it going down and then coming back, that is likely what it is. If it's really concerning you, you can certainly have it checked out, but there are a lot of lymph nodes in our bodies, and I have had one in each arm pit (fortunately at different times!) get quite swollen and very tender.

Lymph massages are great for this. Here is a good video to show you how to do one yourself - but you don't have to do it as many times as she is saying, only do it a few times to start. You don't want to make those lymph nodes really sore!!

Totally agree with the massaging and dry brushing (I'd start with the brushing first).

Also, try incorporating red root - as advised by a few other forum members, it really helped me.

When I started abx for bart my lymph nodes went CRAZY! They were so swollen and sore--mainly around neck and head and face. I have also had swollen glands in pits, groin and other places. We have over 700 of them. ;)

They could be caused by the bacteria getting stirred up but getting stuck in the lymph system. They could be caused by high viral loads. You might be having trouble detoxing. Maybe all of the above. I'd start with helping to get your blood moving (dry brushing) and then the massaging is a little more intense.

I wouldn't worry about it - it's your body doing it's thing but you might need to help it out a little. If the nodes start to feel hard or you don't feel relief with some attention after a few weeks, then you might want to press your MD with another conversation. But swollen nodes are pretty common with us in our treatment - not fun.

Are mammograms used for lumps that are on the armpit (not on the breast?)

I wonder if an ultrasound would work? If so, there wouldn't be any radiation.

I would think an ultra sound would be the best place to start with at least - that's if you are really concerned about it. Mamo's don't include the arm pit area - at least not the ones I've had.

Mammograms are less expensive and the first line in the United States. Sonograms are no radiation exposure but it is difficult to get a doc to order that on the first go around.

I have tried for years to get sonograms instead of the radiation mammograms with no luck at all.

So once a year I get a dose of radiation.

Girlie mammograms detect some of the numerous lymph nodes under the arms.

Any lump in the general chest area should be given an xray - man or woman!

Tell me about it!!!! I always wonder if they've broken a bunch of blood vessels, etc... I wouldn't think trauma to the breast is a good thing.


I've only had two. But - my aunt just went a few weeks ago and said they're not squishing the breast as much...and the tech told her that they were missing 'things' when squeezing it so flat.

I hadn't hear of this...

My mammo machine is 3D now. The pictures are amazing. You don't just see a spot, you can see the shape of the spot and how dense it is.

Best to always get your mammos done at the same place, if you can. Having a good comparison with the same machine is best.

Well, we only have one mammogram machine in my small city...

I didn't realize that they weren't all 3D.

i'm thinking I will pay for an MRI next time...maybe an ultrasound...

The city I go to is only about 10,000 people and I get mine at the hospital and they just got the 3D this year.

I asked for a sonogram but the doctor has to order it OR if you have a suspicious spot seen on the mammo, they will sonogram it.

MRI are even more expensive and loud and takes a lot longer.

We have a self-pay mri machine in the nearby city...

I don't mind them...and they give you headphones to put on...I've had a few of them done in the past few years.

I just don't want the radiation. And the mammograms aren't really good if you have dense breast tissue...which I have. My GP had me hold off for my first mammogram because of that.

I wonder if the Thermography is a good test. I know Health Canada doesn't recommend them.

I was just going to ask if anyone had done thermography - I have read great things about it and also people who say it's fine but not that great and most people don't have access anyway. I don't care what they do, as long as they've moved on from the ridiculous pressure plates. A man invented that machine. One MD told me to stop having them done because of my density too. Another MD told me diligent self exams are superior. I'm on the hunt for both sonogram and thermography. I'm done with the smasher and the horse it rode in on.

I can get the thermography done in Victoria (3 1/4 hrs away) - I haven't checked out the price though.

...and because Health Canada doesn't recommend them...doesn't mean much...really.

Actually, I think I can get a self-pay sonogram in another city...I should check and see if I need a Dr. to order it.

Thanks all ! It's been two months so I'm going to have my primary care check it out. She is Lyme friendly. Sadly my sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer so I need to get my annual exam, tested for the gene, and talk about prevention. So it's an all encompassing visit with a lot of layers to it

Thanks Girlie. Yes, my primary care diagnosed me ! Knew what tests to run, etc. it's so much easier to see her when I can so I don't have to explain myself. She's beyond wonderful. I even submitted her for an ILADS scholarship to go to conference this year.
Not all doctors are crap!

My sister is in good enough spirits. Surgery is tomorrow, chemo 2-4 weeks after
