Stiff neck worsening into neck/shoulder pain any relief ideas?

So wife is treating lab confirmed Lyme (still waiting for co-infection results which we all know are dubious at best) using Ceftin/Zithro daily since late July. Her stiff neck has worsened from a dull ache to sharp pains and has gone into her shoulders. It's a constant thing and doesn't seem to let up.

First question, any good remedies for dealing with this?

Second question, could this be not Lyme but something else like Bartonella or Babesia? I think I read Bart can cause the same issues as the stiff neck is neurological. She has other neurological symptoms like the "itchies" as we call them. It's important to know because Zithro/Ceftin I don't think does much against Bart. Thanks.

My head, neck, shoulder pain was all lymph related. I had a sluggish lymph system and things would be clogged up and swollen. I had to learn how to detox my lymph system. I was an ace at the rest of my body and had no idea that I could detox like crazy and still have something clogged up. Inflammation is generally the root of all pain says my acupuncturist.

Oh and what I used was Red Root and lymph massage (/www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA-wi0d7-Ro)

Just another thing to think about here...

When I first got my severe pain (start of lyme symptoms) a few years ago, I used ice and it helped a lot.
I had to use it every couple of hours though.
it provided relief.

I would only keep it on for a few minutes though.

Ice and arnica help me a lot. Neck/shoulder pain is the worst of my symptoms. So severe it makes a grown man cry.

I have found that for me, sometimes ice would help, and sometimes heat would help. It depends on why my neck hurt.

Checking the lymph nodes is the first thing to do, but if it's the back of her neck, it's likely the muscles. This could be from a meningitis type of symptom that Lyme can bring, or the tight muscles that can happen from any of these infections. My neck will also hurt pretty bad from occipital headaches at times.

thanks everyone. i tried giving her a massage and it made it 10x worse so that's out. heat didn't do anything. she hates ice.

its not her lymph nodes i checked them (or at least doesn't seem to be). seems more like the meningitis type symptom.

can something other than lyme cause this co-infection wise?

Not that I'm aware of, at least not to that extent.

Nothing really made much of a dent in my neck pain when it was meningitis type pains - I just had to ride it out, usually with a migraine. shakehead The only good thing for me is that it has yet to last beyond a week - except when I was undiagnosed.

Rikky-fashion a makeshift sling and isolate your wife's arms one at a time. It's very possible that some or much of her neck pain is being triggered by her shoulder and her trapezes muscle. She may be able to tell you which side is more likely the issue by which side of her neck the pain radiates up.

If isolating her arm and shoulder help then massage her trap muscle (on top of her shoulder), mid back just to the side of her spine (you will feel the lump), high in her under arm, and on her side where a woman's bra strap goes across. Those areas are very common trigger points. Take your thumb and press gently and circle around the areas I mentioned until she tells you you found an area that hurts. Then apply more pressure to that area until the pain subsides.

You can google trigger point release and trigger point release charts in images. I use a foam roller and while it really hurts to release them I feel a hundred times better after doing it. People also use a theracane which can be purchased on Amazon.

Bee venom cream helps and actual stings ...it is the greatest anti inflammation. .also my fads knee responded to boswellia powder with dmso but you may try frankensce essential oil first ...finally acupuncture and rocephin but i think zith is just barto static

Hey Rikki,

I have been dealing with that symptom for years. On and off. I've seen a Chiropractor, it helps only for a short while.

But I've been laying on tennis ball and working the knots out, that does help. And a heating pad.
