Spinoff from the "How do you look since lyme post" - I posted that my fingers seem wrinkly to me. Well I googled and found an article that said the moon beds of nails should be white, and mine have always been white. They said purplish can mean risk of stroke. Well mine look purple now.

Not sure if there is any truth to this article. My mother has three strokes and my dad died of heart attack. I had the Boston Heart test done in April and my heart health is perfect. Then I got lyme in July

Wondering if lyme-brain increases risk of stroke?

So what color are your moon beds?

moons? who still has moons? smhair

I have only moons on my thumbs now - they aren't white, but they are lighter color than the rest of my nails with a darker outline.

The scariest thing I had on my nails were the black lines. My manicurist noticed it before I did. He thought I had a splinter. Just another part of lyme.

I don't have moons on any of my fingers, haven't had for a few years. Strangely they started coming back on my thumbs and a little on index finger when I was taking doxycycline 2 months back. But they disappeared

Black lines! What do they mean? I am almost grateful for this post so I won't freak out down the line.

Me too! What do those mean? Well now I wonder if everyone has changes in nails, skin, hair and we are applying it ALL to lyme.

Well, mine happened soon after lyme hit.

I guess it could be a co-incidence...but I'm betting on lyme and co's.

Actually, some of my skin changes have normalized since treatment...

I swear we must be twins! I just discovered the same thing. Only my thumbs have 'moon's. They are white with a dark red aura above them.

ETA: and I discovered the vertical ridges last year. Makes applying polish all kinds of fun.


When I was a little kid my Mother told me those white moons stood for every lie I had told that week. She was serious.

One of my doctors told me that horizontal ridges can be a sign of thyroid problems... That vertical ridges were often more a sign that your fingernails had been beaten up by everyday life... I don't know if anyone else can cooberate? (This was a GP early on)
I know that in a general exam, they often look at nails.. I thought that this might be a simple visual for iron?
What do the moons mean and what does it mean if you only have them on your thumbs?

Ak - all of my nails have the vertical lines/ridges.
..and I know I haven't beaten them up.



julymorning - When my sister in law was applying gel polish to my nails in 2014 - she noticed the ridges and I asked her if she's seen them much in her salon..and she said not as bad as mine.
