Famvir questions

I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with FAMVIR for treating EBV. What does one have to look for as far as side effects, toxicity etc. My doc grove me no heads up on any of it.

Also how long do people treat and is there an end point?

I appreciate any info and experiences...thanks

Doing this and then supposed to add MINO, ceftin, AND TINDAmax

Flagyl & Tindamax? I'm not certain but usually seems like people do one or the other - not both.

Famvir is an antiviral - mostly used to treat herpes zoster strains, which most people have and the lucky ones never show symptoms. The TBD tend to either include viruses or the burden on the immune system allows the viral load to surge, causing the symptoms. This is why K07 developed a cold sore. That happens to me, plus, I often suspect that the viral load is what is causing - to this day after nearly 3 years of lyme, bart and babs treatment very successfully, I STILL have lingering exhaustion.

I first started this very long road to treatment (although not as long as others') with healing my gut so that my immune system can help fight and also lowering a very high viral load. I had high titers for 4-5 viruses in the beginning.

I tried a few different antiviral Rx (Famvir was one of them) before landing on one that I used for abut a year at high doses. Twice I tried transitioning onto herbs and ended up bed-ridden for days. So I went back on the antiviral Rx while I was treating lyme & co. Only recently have I transitioned successfully to an antiviral herbal tincture.

I think antiviral herbals work well - it's just when and how you use them. In my case and for most people trying to treat lyme & co --- the Rx works better to suppress the viral load while you're body is dealing with so much else. Once your overall infection load reduces, then I think the herbals work pretty well.

Regardless of which Rx you use - you need to be supporting your liver and kidneys - the Rx can be tough to metabolize. I've used milk thistle seed and burdock root very successfully to help metabolize both an antiviral Rx and an anti fungal Rx and all of the abx I'm also on. (milk thistle seed alone was not enough). Please make sure your MD is checking your liver enzymes every month you're on the Rx. If nothing helps control the enzymes - you should stop treatment altogether and maybe do a liver cleanse and incorporate good herbal support for a month or so, and then try the Rx again or try the antiviral herbals.

As always - please be sure your detox protocol is top notch.

I'm not sure how antiviral could make you herx bc it's not killing but inhibiting replication of virus. Othersmay disagree...But I had no ill effects.

I want to add one more thought to the herxing question:

I tried twice to transition off of Rx and onto herbal antivirals (specifically, Beyond Balance IMN-V-II tincture, which has several herbs). Both times I took too high a dose, which triggered the virus response or overwhelmed my immune system with whatever else it was killing and I was out of commission for weeks... this was when my viral load from several viruses was really high.

Finally, after being on Rx for over a year, as well as getting more successful lyme & co treatment under my belt, and much healthier overall, I tried again to transition off Rx and onto the herbs. This time I started very slowly and had success. I'm now on max doses and getting ready to transition onto IMN-V-III.

So... in a way, the herbs did kind of trigger a herx-like reaction, maybe because it acts less powerfully, more organically. I was usually on high doses of the Rx (800mg/day) so that might be why they never caused much reaction other than suppression.
