hydrocortisone acetate 5%

So, my gut is telling me I need to run away from this dr ("LL"MD)....I told him that my adrenals are a mess (another dr did the 4 point saliva cortisol test for me). As a result, he wants me to take Hydrocortisone acetate 5% 3x/day. (Cortisol is low in morning and mid day, low normal in evening and normal at late night. Uh...isn't this a steroid and a major no-no for us? Also, shouldn't I be taking adaptogens, vitamins to fix this? Anybody on here fix there adrenals this way?


I also told him that my wbc count dropped from 7.7 to 3.7 in a matter of 3 weeks, which he did not address.

If it's a small dose of Hydrocortisone acetate, it's often used for low adrenal function, and doesn't usually interfere with the immune function.

If you don't feel like this doctor is addressing your needs/concerns though, maybe it is time to look for another doctor???

There are very few options in nyc unfortunately...and I have been to all of them....NONE are particularly good. The one I am seeing now is relatively "conventional". He is not opposed to herbs (he'll occasionally suggest something)...but mostly he is all about the prescription pad....

so, you don't think I should be worried about the steroids...addiction, suppressing the adrenals, etc...

Actually, if you are taking the very low doses of hydrocortisone as described in the link I posted, then it won't suppress the adrenals, but support them - and it won't interfere with the Lyme, necessarily. We have a few members that are using hydrocortisone to treat their low adrenal function - I believe Krimpet is?

Yes low does hydrocortisone is ok. It is a physiological dose not pharmaceutical. My doctor also suggested this and I did fill the script.

I am currently using adrenal cortex by Thorne but if I need to switch, I will, but the protocol he has me on with the cortex should help.

But to your question, yes adaptogens can be used also.
