Switching from Ceftin to Doxycycline? Effects - Increased Herxes?

Hi,

A little less than two weeks ago my LLMD switched me from Cefuroxime (Ceftin) to Doxycycline and added Plaquenil in there as well. I had been on Ceftin 2 times a day for three months and my herxes and symptoms from Lyme had gotten significantly better. Now that I have been on the doxy and plaquenil for almost 2 weeks I have noticed that I have once again started to have morning naseau, chest/neck soreness, shakiness, increased fatigue, and general weakness. Is it possible that the doxy with plaquenil is just more effective in kiling the Lyme spirochetes and that is why Im going through herxes again? Note, they are still not as bad as they were 1-3 months ago when I was starting treatment, but it is kind of mentally difficult to be going through these symptoms again.

Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience! Thanks all!

Doxy is tough on the gut for most people. Try to take it with food regardless of what the bottle states. Some folks even have to take it in the middle of their meal.

You do need to change up your ABX protocol periodically. Has your LLMD discussed how and when you will address Babs and Bart? Most of us have these co-infections as well regardless of current symptoms or lab results.

We have gone over Babs and Bart, they will be treated along the way since there is no real diffinitive testing since I have been on antibiotics the whole time I have seen my LLMD and that compromises the tests for bart and babs. (They came back negative, but when on antibiotics, those tests are only 50% accurate, so a negative result doesnt mean much.)

I was basically just wondering if the doxy was more powerful and thus upping my herx symptoms due to higher rates of spirochetal kill off.

Doxy isn't necessarily more powerful, it just works differently from Ceftin, and adding plaq is claimed to be a mild cyst buster. Treatment is a rollercoaster ride and what you are experiencing is typical.
