Hi There, I'm wondeing if anyone has been on just Biaxin and Mepron? My LLMD prescribed Biaxin, Rifampin and Mepron. I had planned on getting to my prescribed dosage of Rifamping before I started Mepron even though she wanted me to start them both at the same time. Once I reached my dosage of Biaxin I started slowly on Rifamin but I went from sleeping 5-6 hours a night to literally one hour. That lasted for the six days I was on Rifampin and I was seriously becoming psychotic so my sister (in 100% remission after three years of treatment!!!) made me stop. That very night I went back to 5-6 hours, which I can live with.

Problem is my LLMD has not returned my email telling her that I stopped and asking what to do so I never started the Mepron. Not sure if I should ( I was supposed to pulse it with Rifampin) and if so, how much and how often.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Even though you stopped the Rifampin, I don't see any reason to hold off on the Mepron.
She didn't give you a dosage of Mepron?

Have you tried calling you LLMD?


So your sister is in remission after 3 years....that's wonderful.
At what point in her treatment was she significantly better - where she felt like she had turned the corner?

Girlie, The doctors in this practice don't take phone calls. I just found out she's been out of town so hopefully she'll answer soon.

I'd say my sister turned the corner about 4 months ago. She has been off abx for 2 months and feeling great. So happy for her - her husband and daughter have it too so it has been awful 8 or so years for her family.

Wow, so it was more than 2 1/2 years of treatment before she turned the corner.

Did she treat all 3 major B's?

No problem:) She did treat all three - she went to Dr. S' practice and got very good care. I know she had many, many periods of terrible herxing but she made it through.

I took Biaxin and Rifampin for Bart. Also took Mepron with Zithro for Babesia earlier in my treatment regimen. This seems like a good protocol. I assume your Rifampin is 300mg per pill and you are taking 2 a day? If you want try cutting down to 1 pill and see how you sleep.

You might be herxing or not hard to say but it would be good to know. If Rifampin doesn't work for you try Rifabutin it's a newer Rifamycin class drug and for most it seems easier to tolerate and more effective.

Thanks Rikky1, I'll mention that to me LLMD. Complete insomnia is one symptom I simply will not put myself through again.

My doc took me off mepron in order to start rifampin-she says yr not supposed to take them together. Anyone ever heard that before?

if you search the internet you'll find several posts of people taking these two together. doesn't mean its good but but i don't see any interactions that would make it prohibitive. i'm currently on rifabutin and may be switching out my plaquenil for malarone to treat cyst form of lyme and babesia. will ask my LLMD about it next i see him.
