There are some very serious potential issues that can come with IV's and PICC's, so you are right to want to be well informed.

Yes, you do have the potential to herx more severely, but I don't think everyone does. I don't think anyone can say how your body will respond, so do be sure to have a driver with you, just in case. I've heard of those that are too sick to drive afterwards and those that do just fine with it.

Joee, ok its ok ..it kinda depends on if you choose to get a port or a picc line ..how long you can treat for ? Tolerance and monitarily....to tell the truth i herxed harder from bee venom and andrographis than i did rocephin...it helped the joint pain immediately. ..temporarily but was a nice reprieve.

The picc is from elbow into vein and rest right above the heart ..they use xray to guide and my llmd used to do it all the time ...you have to get weekly dressing changes and yes there is a open vein with tube hanging out ..they make socks and covers so you can bath but you do not want it wet ...
this is one of the teasons i went for a smart port ...it was a mild day surgury i totally had a panic attack but guy was cool ...it took 6 weeks to heal up ..its a imlanted silicone triangle in my chest and goes into jugular and test by the heart ...the thing is when im done i pull out the hubor needle and pretend im normal for a few days ..can shower swim etc ..it is under skin ..they last any were from 2 to 10 yrs depending on njmber of sticks ..a hubor needle must be used to access...i do iv abx at home with pump balls ..i have my nurse friend access me once a week ..kinda wild west here and it had steep learning curve ..steril field needs be when accessed ..but i use caps and flushes on the road in the car ..i know i will be treating for a few years ...so insurance covered it with a dx of pdn ..and the doc that ordered it just wanted to sell me ozone ..my llmd put in script to infuserve and they are the bomb ...they will ship everything to your door ...and if you can afford a nurse like pirouette. ..she is doing vanco and rocephin. ..havent heard from her latley but she has very detailed posts in port vs picc..it took me 3 months to commit ...i totally wigged out now its second nature ...i made gains only when i did iv abx with herbs and bvt ...the bvt is helping my nerves ...iv access has helped with things like iv curcumin ,iv phosphitaydlycholine ,iv glutithione ,iv silver ,iv h202 iv ozone , getting stuck 3 x a week eas buliding scar tissue on arms and really sucked ..

it has helped my chest pain .the iv zith made tinnitus worse and may have added to skipps ..but the nerves are affected and the rocephin helps the chest pain ...with the curvumin i actually felt the inflammed heart relax.
its the big guns but it aint a cure ..it helps and as much as you can afford go for it dr j know his stuff. He got mandy from under our skin into remission ...please let us know his protocal and how you fair ...picc is easier to install and pull but port is less risky and long term so you can always do port after if need be ..let me know if i can help in any way ..look up the post from pirouette

When I had a PICC line (for ozone therapy) mine was inserted in the inside of arm, midway. I didn't keep it long because it just made me uncomfortable. Where it was inserted, I normally just wrapped my arm in cling wrap to avoid getting it wet. Under that was the cover that bluelyme referred to.

On the days that you don't get IV and over the weekends you will need to clean your line or have someone do it for you.
